As Formula 1 prepares to return to Malaysia for the first time in nearly a decade, Louis Vuitton is marking the occasion with an object designed to preserve one of motorsport’s most coveted moments: a bespoke Louis Vuitton Trophy Trunk for the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia.

Taking place at Sepang International Circuit from 2 to 4 October, the one-off race replaces the Bahrain Grand Prix originally scheduled for April. It also marks Formula 1’s return to the Malaysian circuit, which last hosted the championship in 2017.

Ahead of race weekend, the Trophy Trunk will be presented to the public at Louis Vuitton Pavilion Kuala Lumpur from 26 to 29 September, marking the first time a Formula 1 Trophy Trunk has been publicly exhibited in Malaysia.

A Trunk Made for Victory

The bespoke piece brings together the codes of Louis Vuitton and Formula 1 in a design that feels both distinctly French and unmistakably connected to the racetrack.

Covered in the House’s iconic Monogram, the trunk features a bold V — representing both “Victory” and “Vuitton” — alongside the red and white colours of Bahrain. The black-and-white Damier pattern references the chequered finish line, creating a visual dialogue between fashion and motorsport.

A new Victory patch is also introduced on the Trophy Trunk. Inspired by traditional travel labels, it is engraved with the winner’s initials, transforming each trunk into a personal record of the race and its champion.

From Asnières to Sepang

As with Louis Vuitton’s most exceptional creations, the Trophy Trunk is handcrafted at the House’s historic atelier in Asnières-sur-Seine, France.

The workshop’s connection to automotive culture dates back to 1897, when the first automotive trunks were designed under Georges Vuitton, son of Louis Vuitton. Anticipating the growing popularity of automobiles and long-distance travel, he created Vuittonite, a durable canvas designed to withstand the elements.

That legacy of innovation continues today in a trunk created to travel from the atelier to the racetrack — and ultimately safeguard a moment of victory.

Victory Travels in Louis Vuitton

The Trophy Trunk continues Louis Vuitton’s long-standing relationship with sport. Since its first partnership with the America’s Cup in 1983, the House has joined forces with some of the world’s most prestigious sporting competitions, including the FIFA World Cup, League of Legends Cup, Davis Cup, Roland-Garros, NBA, Rugby World Cup, Ballon d’Or, Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 and Australian Open.

At the intersection of craftsmanship, travel and competition, the Trophy Trunk embodies the House’s enduring philosophy: “Victory Travels in Louis Vuitton.”

As Formula 1 returns to Sepang, the Trophy Trunk offers a fitting symbol of that philosophy — carrying the legacy of victory from Kuala Lumpur to the world stage.
