Dato’ Sri Edwin Tan Pei Seng, Managing Director of Joland Group, recently hosted the Hennessy X.O’s Greatness is an Odyssey event in Johor Bahru. A celebration of the exceptional leadership amongst the younger generation of entrepreneurs from Malaysia, the event is the first of five that will take place across the country.
Hennessy is regarded as a symbol of success and leadership. What are the values you share with Hennessy?
Perseverance and resilience. Hennessy has been consistently producing high-quality cognac for centuries, overcoming various challenges and adapting to changing market conditions. These are qualities that I try to emulate.
Why is this partnership with Hennessy X. O’s Greatness is an Odyssey important for you, personally?
Two reasons. The first is that it provides a valuable platform to connect with others, share experiences and inspire them to pursue their own paths of greatness. The other is that it is a significant recognition of my achievements and the hard work I have put into my career.

What are the most important qualities of a successful business leader?
As a leader, having a clear vision for the business and planning to achieve it are essential for success. The business environment is constantly evolving, so we need to be creative and able to change to overcome challenges.
What have been milestones of the Joland Group you are most proud of?
When Joland Group launched Paragon Residences @ Straits View in 2012 and Paragon Suites @ CIQ in 2013. They were our first luxury service apartments developments and, happily, both had high take-up rates.
Another important milestone was when one of our companies, Paragon Adventure Sdn Bhd acquired 51% of the equity interest in Paragon Globe Bhd, a public company listed on main board of Bursa Malaysia, on 27 September 2017.
Tell us more about the recently launched Paragon Gateway development.
This is a brand-new mixed-development project located at Taman Suria, Johor Bahru. The project is developed by Paragon Premium Sdn Bhd, a joint venture company between Joland Group and Kuopacific Malaysia Sdn Bhd
The project comprises four blocks of serviced apartments, with a total of 2,136 units of serviced apartments and 48 units of retail lots on approximately 5.24ac of freehold land. Its strategic location offers excellent connectivity and convenient road access, ensuring residents can easily reach their desired destinations.
