The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express Starts A New Paris-To-Monaco Journey In 2027

Bringing a storied rail experience to the French Riviera’s most glamorous principality.

Venice Simplon-Orient-Express

The journey to Monte Carlo is set to become part of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express experience. On 10 May 2027, the Belmond-operated train will travel from Paris along the French Riviera, making its first stop in Monaco before continuing towards Venice. The route is expected to become an annual addition to its European schedule.

The overnight journey draws on the romance of early 20th-century rail travel, with guests accommodated in the train’s restored Art Deco carriages. Options range from Historic Cabins to Suites and Grand Suites, while L’Observatoire, an exclusive carriage conceived with artist JR, offers a more private setting with a bedroom, living area, library and tearoom.

Dining and the social rituals of rail travel remain central to the experience. Dinner is served in one of two restaurant cars, followed by cocktails and live piano music in the Bar Car. By morning, the train traces the Côte d’Azur, passing the red cliffs of the Massif de l’Estérel and coastal towns before reaching Monaco-Monte-Carlo station, tucked beneath the principality.

The new route also carries a historical connection. In 1977, two original carriages were acquired at auction in Monte Carlo, helping set in motion the revival that would become the modern Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.

Fares for the Paris-to-Monte-Carlo journey start at €4,870 per person, based on two guests sharing a Historic Cabin. The fare includes an overnight journey, all meals, selected wine and soft drinks, steward service and transfers.
