Glenfiddich, the world’s most awarded single malt scotch whisky, launches its latest addition – Grand Yozakura within the renowned Grand Series to elevate ordinary celebratory occasions to the extraordinary. In true Maverick spirit, Glenfiddich Grand Yozakura is the first single malt scotch whisky to be finished in rare ex-Awamori casks.
The Grand Yozakura is a limited-edition 29-year-old whisky matured at the Glenfiddich Distillery in Dufftown and finished in oak casks that previously matured the oldest distilled alcoholic spirit in Japan, known as Awamori. The Awamori is traditionally stored in clay pots and matures in oak casks, using long-grain indica rice.
Grand Yozakura celebrates Hanami – the fleeting moment captures a time when nature is honoured. Once gone, this marriage of rare liquids will never be replicated, presenting a transient chance to experience a beautiful collision of cultures and flavours – which kicks off with a surge of ripe fruits and caramelised onions that fills the nose, followed by an indulgent layer of toasted oak and creamy vanilla mingle with spice and sherbet, before a final crescendo of oak on the finish.
Celebrating the finest flavours from Scotland and Japan to Malaysia, the Grand Yozakura was launched at the Glenfiddich Dreamscape Banquet hosted by Ross Blainey. It was an enchanting world that combined the brilliance of gastronomy, art and fantasy.
Guests embarked on a sensory journey to unveil the expressions through custom menus, spectacular performances and sensual dishes that stimulated their imagination. Bringing to life the grandeur of the Grand Series expressions, the ensuing three-course Japanese-themed dinner was inspired by the traditional celebration of the cherry blossom appreciation, curated by Chef James Won.
To celebrate this symbolic time of the year, Chef James Won sourced exquisite ingredients such as the Tyee Salmon from the pristine waters of New Zealand, and Tobiko, the flying fish roe from Japan. The menu also showcased the pinnacle of craftsmanship and creativity, weaving in the prowess of the Grand Yozakura into the courses, while paying homage to the dreamy setting of the Sakura trees during the Hanami season.
Glenfiddich Grand Yozakura is retailed at $2,000 (approximately MYR9,460) for a bottle. For more information, visit the official website.
