BMW has unveiled what may be its most consequential model in decades. More than another addition to its electric portfolio, the new BMW iX3 50 xDrive M Sport Pro is the first vehicle from the marque’s highly anticipated Neue Klasse family to arrive in Malaysia, signalling the beginning of a new era for the German luxury manufacturer.
Its credentials are already formidable. Crowned both World Car of the Year and World Electric Vehicle of the Year 2026, the iX3 arrives with global acclaim, but its significance extends well beyond industry accolades. Electric Pulse
At the heart of the iX3 is BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology, built on a new 800-volt architecture that delivers greater efficiency, faster charging and enhanced performance. Producing 345kW (469hp) and 645Nm of torque through dual electric motors, the all-wheel-drive SUV offers effortless acceleration while retaining the dynamic character synonymous with the BMW badge.
Range anxiety is also becoming increasingly irrelevant. With a WLTP-rated driving range of up to 805 kilometres and DC fast-charging capability of up to 400kW, the battery can recover as much as 372 kilometres of driving range in just 10 minutes under optimal conditions. Intelligent battery pre-conditioning further ensures charging begins at maximum efficiency upon arrival at compatible charging stations.
Perhaps the most transformative element, however, is invisible. BMW introduces its new Heart of Joy control unit, a central computing system that processes driving inputs up to ten times faster than conventional architectures. Working alongside advanced regenerative braking and chassis management systems, it delivers smoother responses and greater precision, making the vehicle feel less like a machine responding to commands and more like a natural extension of the driver.
Intuitive Interface
Inside, the iX3 introduces BMW Panoramic iDrive, the brand’s most significant evolution in digital interaction. A full-width projection stretches across the windscreen, presenting essential information directly within the driver’s line of sight, complemented by a new 3D Head-Up Display and a 17.9-inch central touchscreen running BMW Operating System X. An AI-powered Intelligent Personal Assistant further personalises the experience, learning driver preferences and anticipating routines over time.
The exterior reflects BMW’s new design philosophy. Clean, monolithic surfaces replace complex sculpting, while the illuminated kidney grille, flush door handles and crisp proportions create a more contemporary interpretation of luxury. The minimalist aesthetic continues inside, where textile surfaces, ambient lighting, M Sport seats and premium materials create an interior that prioritises comfort without sacrificing sophistication.
