Johor Super Crown Polo Tournament 2026: Johor’s Royal Legacy Takes To The Field

The tournament brings some of the world’s finest players to Istana Pasir Pelangi, as Johor positions itself on the international luxury sports circuit.

Johor’s royal polo tradition takes centre stage this week as the Johor Super Crown Polo Tournament (JSCPT) 2026 gets underway at the Royal Johor Polo Club. Running from 1 to 6 September, the six-day tournament brings together five elite teams and a field of internationally recognised players for what is billed as Malaysia’s largest and highest-handicap polo tournament to date.

Held under the banner “Legacy in Motion”, the tournament was conceived by His Royal Highness Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, The Regent of Johor, as an expression of the state’s enduring connection to polo and its ambitions for the sport on a global stage.

Level Playing Field

At the heart of the competition is an impressive international line-up. Five teams – Royal Johor, Temasek, J-Corp, Korea Polo and Digital Bridge – will compete at the Istana Pasir Pelangi grounds, with the roster including multiple Argentine Open champions. Among them are Royal Johor’s Pablo “Polito” Pieres and Temasek’s Ignatius “Nachi” Du Plessis, bringing some of the highest levels of professional polo to Malaysian soil.

The tournament also reflects a broader evolution in how luxury sport is experienced. With its combination of royal heritage, elite competition and international participation, the JSCPT is intended to strengthen Johor’s position as a destination for high-end sports tourism, while creating a platform for international connections and cultural exchange.

For spectators around the world, access extends beyond the grounds. While the tournament, including its Gala Night and Grand Final, remains by invitation only, all matches will be broadcast globally via PoloLine.TV, allowing audiences to follow the competition as it unfolds.

Elevating The Sport

The setting itself adds another layer of significance. Established more than a century ago, the Royal Johor Polo Club is one of Asia’s oldest polo institutions, with its history closely intertwined with Johor’s royal heritage. The Royal Polo Grounds at Istana Pasir Pelangi therefore provide more than a backdrop for the tournament; they form part of the story being carried forward.

With “Legacy in Motion” as its guiding idea, the JSCPT 2026 looks to the future without abandoning the traditions that shaped it – translating Johor’s longstanding royal association with polo into a contemporary international sporting proposition.

The Johor Super Crown Polo Tournament 2026 runs until 6 September at Istana Pasir Pelangi, Johor Bahru.
