Lovers of steaks and grilled meats, will have a chance to experience acclaimed Korean steakhouse GU:UM in Kuala Lumpur. The acclaimed Singapore restaurant is making its Malaysian debut at The RuMa Hotel and Residences on 12 July 2025.
The exclusive dinner, to be held at ATAS Modern Malaysian Eatery, will showcase the fire-driven finesse of MICHELIN-starred Chef Louis Han, bringing an extraordinary interpretation of contemporary Korean cuisine to discerning diners in Kuala Lumpur.
Led by Chef Sanggil Byeon, GU:UM’s rising star handpicked by Chef Han himself, the evening’s tasting menu will be a vibrant expression of Korea’s grilling heritage, elevated through modern technique and bold creativity. Since opening in 2024, GU:UM has made waves for its innovative approach to Korean barbecue — redefined through its roots in Han’s “Front Yard Barbecue” tasting menu at NAE:UM, and translated into a steakhouse with singular vision.
Culinary Experience
The landmark culinary event will showcase GU:UM’s signatures as well as inventive new dishes. Menu highlights include Yukhwae Jeon, a daring hybrid of beef tartare and potato pancake, marrying texture and richness with a dollop of egg yolk jam.
Cold Japchae – sweet potato noodles tossed with seared meat and chilled vegetables — light, savoury, and distinctly refreshing. Mulhwae, a chilled sashimi broth salad combining seafood, tangy dressing, and bracing clarity — a modern nod to Korea’s coastal and temple traditions.
For dessert, guests can savour Hotteok: GU:UM’s iconic dessert, which is served crisp and golden, filled with brown sugar and crowned with burnt honey ice cream.
“This collaboration is a celebration of cultural and culinary excellence,” says Daniyal Ng, Hotel Manager of The RuMa. “GU:UM’s arrival in Malaysia aligns with our mission to bring meaningful, chef-driven experiences to our guests.”
Priced at RM488 nett per person, seating for this exclusive dining event is limited. Reservations are essential for what promises to be a rare and memorable addition to Malaysia’s gastronomic calendar.
