Seremban Takes Centre Stage With The Inaugural Nine Arts Festival

The festival takes place with a captivating theme called “Origins,” where various forms of art and creative shows can be experienced all under one roof.

As Malaysia gears up for Visit Malaysia Year 2026 and Visit Negeri Sembilan Year 2026, the opening of a new cultural fest enables Seremban to mark its name on the cultural landscape. From 14 to 16 August 2026, the inaugural Nine Arts Festival will bring together nine multidisciplinary experiences spanning music, dance, theatre, film, visual arts, and cultural heritage, offering visitors an opportunity to engage with creativity in ways that extend beyond the traditional gallery or concert hall.

Established by the renowned pianist and educator Foo Mei Yi, a Malaysian from Negeri Sembilan who presently resides in the UK, the artist-initiated festival takes place under the Royal Patronage of His Highness Tunku Zain Al-‘Abidin. With the theme of “Origins”, the festival aims to demonstrate the significance of cultural heritage in motivating artistic creation in the present time and initiating exchanges between artists, audience, and communities, which form Malaysian’s creative identity.

Instead of holding its programming at one specific location, Nine Arts Festival 2026 takes place at several iconic sites throughout Seremban, like Millennia Village, Royal Sungei Ujong Club, and Seremban Lake Gardens. All of them create a distinctive setting where performances, exhibitions, and hands-on activities take place amidst the cultural backdrop of the town, and people can take a look at the area through a different creative prism.

The festival boasts some special things such as Navarasa—a unique performance of dinner and dance from Dato’ Ramli Ibrahim’s Sutra Foundation—and Wayang!, an interesting combination of an old silent movie by Charlie Chaplin with live caklempong music and wayang kulit, highlighting the dialogue between international cinema and Malaysian traditions. Besides, Inside the Dreamscape: Mimpi Kita Film Immersive Experience is a very interesting multisensory cinema journey, and Music at an Exhibition makes an art exhibition a living stage for visual arts and live shows. In addition, The Big Stage Quiz combines interactive amusement with a traditional theatrical performance in live quiz form.

In addition to the showcases, the festival strongly believes in engagement and participation of the community. People can join ‘Art Together’ and draw in the open air amidst nature in the beautiful environment of Seremban Lake Gardens or try their creativity during ‘Create Your Own Soundtrack’  where participants improvise alongside master musicians while responding to projected film scenes. All activities aim to promote the idea of making creativity and artistic expression accessible to all cultures while stimulating intergenerational collaboration.

Choosing Seremban as the venue for the events is equally significant. Although it is in the shadow of the nearest big cities, the capital of state Negeri Sembilan is perfect as the city with lots of history and creativity involved in the organization of the festival. Most of the events take place in the peaceful Millennia Village near the granite hills of the state, which gives a chance to observe how a festival differs greatly from regular (urban) festivals.

With the commencement of Nine Arts Festival in Malaysia, a new era has begun.

The festival not only opens up a new chapter of Malaysia’s cultural calendar but also highlights growing recognition for collaborations across different forms of art. Instead of being just a performance weekend, the festival offers a platform to reinvent the significance of traditions in the contemporary world while making Seremban a place to prove how art, culture, and people can co-exist.
