[New Cast Update]: London’s West End Rising Stars Bring East Meets West To Kuala Lumpur

A new musical theatre showcase brings rising stars from London and Asia together for one night only in KL.

This October, the West End comes to Kuala Lumpur.

London’s West End Rising Stars – East Meets West in Musical Theatre brings together a cast of accomplished performers from Asia and the UK for a showcase celebrating the breadth and sophistication of contemporary musical theatre. The production makes its Southeast Asian debut in Kuala Lumpur on 20 and 21 October 2026, before concluding its tour in Singapore on 24 October.

Produced by the team behind Stars of the West End, the concert marks a significant moment for Asian representation on the West End stage. Its cast features performers whose credits span some of musical theatre’s best-known productions, including MJ The Musical, Hamilton, Miss Saigon, West Side Story, Aladdin and The King & I.

Star-Studded Cast

Among the performers announced are Christine Allado, whose West End and international credits include Hamilton, The Prince of Egypt, West Side Story and The Sound of Music, and Malaysian-born Aaron Teoh, who has appeared in Aladdin, Miss Saigon, The King & I and Wicked, as well as the blockbuster film adaptation of Wicked.

The production is directed by Miranda Wilford, a musical director, host and theatre professional whose West End credits include Thriller Live, where she served as resident director, alongside productions such as Grease, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Hair and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. The full cast is expected to be announced in early September.

“We are thrilled to bring London’s West End Rising Stars to Malaysia and showcase the incredible talent emerging from both Asia and the UK,” says Cecilia Leong Faulkner, Co-Founder and Managing Director of the British Theatre Playhouse.

The Kuala Lumpur performances will take place at the Grand Ballroom of Hilton Kuala Lumpur. The 20 October performance is an exclusive presentation by Standard Chartered Bank, while the public performance on 21 October, presented by Taylor’s Education Group, offers guests a choice between a gala dinner and show or a cocktail reception and show.

For Taylor’s Education Group Chairman Dato’ Loy Teik Ngan, the collaboration reflects the importance of creating pathways into the creative industries. “The arts play a critical role in shaping confidence, creativity and diverse perspectives,” he says, adding that supporting the production aligns with the group’s commitment to nurturing young talent and broadening access to world-class creative opportunities.
