Malaysia’s vibrant culinary scene has earned some recognition on the 2026 Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants extended list. Among the 51-100 rankings, Penang’s Gēn and Kuala Lumpur’s Dewakan have emerged as standout establishments, highlighting the nation’s growing reputation in luxury dining.
A Notable Return

Penang’s Gēn, meaning “roots,” marks a triumphant re-entry at No.89. Led by Johor-born chef Johnson Wong, the restaurant offers seasonal tasting menus that evoke nostalgic Malaysian flavours with modern techniques.

Dishes such as corn-fed chicken with chicken liver and chamomile, or flower crab paired with white corn and beechey bamboo, are plated with whimsical artistry, allowing diners to savour each course at a relaxed pace. The experience is often described as a heartfelt tribute to Malaysia’s culinary heritage.
Consistent Flavours

Meanwhile, Dewakan in Kuala Lumpur claims the highest rise among Malaysian entries, climbing 22 places to No.62. Chef Darren Teoh’s philosophy blends a deep respect for Malaysia’s Indigenous ingredients with contemporary culinary innovation.

Dewakan is a celebration of Malaysian heritage, weaving native and often overlooked ingredients into its menu.
Situated on the 48th floor of Naza Tower, the restaurant combines panoramic city views with a light-filled, luxurious dining space. Dewakan’s dishes celebrate the country’s rich biodiversity, turning local produce into refined, modern creations.
Culinary Recognition
Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants unveiled this year’s 51-100 extended list ahead of the awards ceremony in Hong Kong on 25 March 2026. The list spans 27 cities—up from 23 last year—and features 12 restaurants appearing for the first time.
