The Glen Grant’s Exploration No.1 is finished in hand-selected rum casks and delivers an evocative whisky that harnesses a taste of adventure.
In a bold nod to its adventurous roots, The Glen Grant has unveiled Exploration No. 1. This marks the first release in its newly launched Exploration Series — a bi-annual limited edition that celebrates flavour innovation through unique cask finishes sourced from around the world.
Finished in hand-selected rum casks, Exploration No. 1 offers whisky lovers a tropical twist on the classic Speyside profile. Bottled at 48% ABV, the debut expression introduces a vivid depth of fruity sweetness, with layers of ripe banana, orange zest, and summer berries, underpinned by warming spices, vanilla, and a creamy, pineapple-tinged finish.
Founding Principle
This new series draws inspiration from James ‘The Major’ Grant, the distillery’s 19th-century founder known for his globe-trotting spirit and relentless curiosity. His influence lives on in this forward-thinking range, which aims to push the boundaries of traditional Scotch-making while remaining rooted in The Glen Grant’s refined and aromatic house style.

Celebrating The Glen Grant’s explorative heritage, Exploration No.1 is the first release in a limited-edition series of single malt whiskies.
“To this day at The Glen Grant, we strive to evoke the same spirit of exploration that defined ‘The Major’ — both in our whisky-making and our innovation philosophy,” explains Greig Stables, Master Distiller at The Glen Grant. “Exploration No. 1 is a vivid expression that amplifies the fruity core of our spirit, enhanced by the richness of the rum cask. It’s a dram best enjoyed neat or with a splash of water.”
Stables, who has developed a growing appreciation for aged rums in recent years, says the idea was born from a desire to explore how rum casks could elevate The Glen Grant’s delicately fruity character. The result is a whisky that balances familiarity with a sense of adventure — fitting for a series designed to take enthusiasts on a flavour journey across continents.
Its All In The Finish
Crafted and bottled in Rothes, in the heart of Speyside, Exploration No. 1 follows a traditional maturation process in ex-bourbon barrels before its final rum cask finish. The whisky is housed in the distillery’s historic stone dunnage warehouses before being bottled on-site.
As part of the brand’s ongoing commitment to innovation, each future release in the Exploration Series will feature a different cask finish, offering whisky fans new ways to experience The Glen Grant’s signature style.
The Glen Grant Exploration No. 1 is available this month in select global retail markets, following an initial release across Asia-Pacific travel retail.
