As one of the longest rivers in Asia, the Mekong needs little introduction. The Southeast Asian transboundary river stretches across nearly 5,000km flowing through Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. For travellers eager to explore a part of Asia’s third-longest river, luxury cruise operator Mekong Kingdoms has the perfect vessel for that task.
Officially setting sail on 9 December 2024, the 50-metre-long Bohème provides a way to experience the iconic waterway in a slow, steady and luxurious pace. The latest vessel to join Mekong Kingdoms luxury fleet will cruise between the Kingdom of Laos’ royal capital, Luang Prabang, and the national capital, Vientiane.
A floating grand dame, the Bohème boasts 13 suites to accommodate up to 26 passengers. Offering a boutique experience, each air-conditioned cabin is luxuriously appointed with premium amenities. The understated décor is rich in tactile qualities, from bed throws made from Laotian Ikat fabric to parquet floors in handsome blond wood and silky-soft bed linens.
Guests can opt to stay in a 30-square-metre Deluxe Suite featuring a cosy living room, en-suite bathroom, and a private balcony for taking in views of the Mekong River or a 26-square-metre Premier View Suites with its own Juliet balconies positioned on the main deck for panoramic views. For ultimate exclusivity, there’s also the 60-square-metre Royal Suite, complete with a private sundeck, a freestanding bath strategically positioned by the window, and dedicated butler services.
On board, travellers can engage in a variety of activities including bird watching, or engaging in pampering in the vessel’s spa. Afternoons are punctuated with cultural expositions such as culinary classes and when the sun goes down, indulgent riverside dining.
When the Bohème docks, adventurers will get to engage in activities like exploring the Pak Ou caves. Guests can also partake in dining experiences near the breathtaking Kuang Si waterfall which flows through the jungle and spills into a series of cascading pools.
Immersive experiences on the itinerary include a visit to the Ban Xang Khong paper-making village and Ban Chan pottery village where they can engage with local artisans. The journey also includes a visit to Xayaboury’s Elephant Conservation Centre. Along the way, the Bohème will also provide its passengers with an insight into life on the river.
Throughout the journey, the luxury cruise vessel will glide past lush jungle landscapes and picturesque riverside villages that dot the Mekong. The six-day, five-night journey begins (or ends) with a stay at the historic Avani+ Luang Prabang Hotel where they can explore the UNESCO World Heritage town.
