It is an annual tradition for families to come together to partake in the cherished tradition of savouring sticky rice dumplings during Dragon Boat Festival 2023, which falls on June 22. This time-honoured practice pays homage to the memory of Qu Yuan, an ancient Chinese poet who protested against corrupt officials by ending his own life in the Miluo River.

Every year, restaurants and hotels offer rice dumplings with newfangled flavours and fillings. From ginseng chicken to Irish duck, we highlight the quirkiest dumplings in this year’s season of the pyramid game.

Man Fu Yuan debuts its Spicy Rice Dumpling with Sambal Dried Shrimps and Cured Kurobuta Pork ($24.80) this year. Sambal dried shrimps add a fiery kick to the stir-fried cured Kurobuta pork, while black trumpet mushrooms provide an earthy and robust note to the filling. In addition to this new offering, the restaurant offers two pyramid-shaped gift sets that make thoughtful presents for family and friends. Each gift set includes five dumplings and a choice between a canister of Tie Guan Yin loose-leaf tea for the Mastery Bundle ($108.80) or a bottle of Prosecco for the Indulgence Bundle ($148.80). Available until June 22.
