Les Bouchons made its debut in Kuala Lumpur in early August, while fans of the restaurant may recall the inaugural Malaysian outlet was first introduced in Puteri Harbour, Johor in 2020. The newly opened outlet occupies Nadodi KL’s former spot on the first floor of the Mayang Club in Jalan Yap Kwan Seng in Kuala Lumpur.
With a bistro-like atmosphere, diners are transported to a quaint Parisian world. The dimmed chandeliers cast a soft glow on the rustic wooden accents, and vintage French artefacts which decorate the rooms are sourced directly from Paris.
Led by Chef Prakash Rao, Les Bouchons KL is devoted to showcasing the richness of French cuisine. The menu, an ode to classic French staples and the art of French-style cooking, unveils signature creations capturing the very essence of French cuisine. The highlight is, of course, the classic steak frites, made with homemade string fries that offer the perfect crisp. There’s also an extensive selection of around 3,000 predominantly French wines to pair with your meal.
During our visit, we were served the 4-course menu. The Prawn Avocado Salad comes as an introduction to Chef Rao’s Asian twist to the whole dining experience.
Meanwhile, the Pan-Seared Foie Gras is another French classic, unveiling layers of decadence in each bite.
One of the more authentic dishes is the French Onion Soup, a comforting bowl of slow-cooked onions in a rich broth, topped with melted cheese and toasted croutons.
The Grilled Black Angus Rib Eye with the combination of the Vigneron Butter results in a harmonious marriage of flavours. For those who opt for lamb, the Lamb Chop with Herbes de Provence is beautifully infused with the aromatic Herbes de Provence.
As for dessert, no French affair would be complete without the classic Crêpes Suzette, a delicate pancake enveloped in a luscious orange-infused sauce. Following suit was the Double Chocolate Lava Cake with its decadent molten centre.
There’s also the Crème Brûlée with its caramelized and slightly burned crust.
Chef Rao’s dedication to preserving classic French style cooking is commendable and with a few local twists that does not stray too far from the classics, Les Bouchons does an excellent job of bringing a taste of Paris bistro culture to Kuala Lumpur.
