What’s in a Muji hotel? Impressions from the Shenzhen branch

We visit the new hotel in Shenzhen to experience the Japanese brand’s “anti-cheap”, “anti-gorgeous” concept.

The room

I’ve booked into a Room Type A at the Muji Hotel. A night’s stay here is priced at 950 RMB (approx. SGD$200) while the highest tier, Room Type E, will set one back 2,500 RMB.

The zen ethos of the company manifests fully in the pared-down room. Pale wood floors and fixtures are set out in clean lines, and the fabric-lined walls of the entrance area bleed into dramatic, porous earthy walls the colour of wet cement.
