Luxury whisky house The Macallan recently unveiled ‘The Colour Collection’, featuring five age statement whiskies draped in liveries celebrating the Scottish distillery’s rich heritage.

Key pillars of The Macallan’s story honoured in this collection include a commitment to nature and its spiritual home in the Macallan estate, an insistence on natural colour for their spirits, and the use of sherry seasoned oak casks in maturing their distinguished whiskies.

The lattermost, in particular, were pivotal to the prominence of the distillery. After all, almost all of The Macallan’s whiskies have been matured in seasoned oak casks since the brand’s birth in 1824, save for a range mellowed in both bourbon oak and sherry oak casks.

These casks, and the Spanish city in which they’re crafted, Jerez de la Frontera, were recognised in the collection’s new visual identity, created in collaboration with American graphic designer, David Carson.

He is best known for upending the graphic designing scene of the 1990s with innovative typographies and visually striking layouts.

But back to the whisky. The collection, which is a global travel retail exclusive, consists of a 12-year, 15-year, 18-year, 21-year and 30-year-old whiskies, with each spirit boasting a unique natural tone derived from its maturation in, what else, sherry seasoned oak casks.

The bottles’ packaging gets progressively darker in line with the whisky’s natural shade: The 12- and 15-year-old bottles are pale and reflective of Jerez’s ashy terrier, with warm, auburn tones creeping in for the older 18-year-old spirit.

The 21- and 30-year-old pours are sheathed in wooden oak boxes produced from sustainable, carefully managed forests, providing regal sanctuary for prized whiskies.

The Macallan Colour Collection is available at Lotte Duty Free stores in Singapore Changi Airport now. Tasting and personalisation options for gifting are available.

If you’d like to find out more about the Scottish house’s history, head to the Southeast Asia-exclusive pop-up at Changi Airport Terminal 3 for an interactive augmented reality (AR) showcase, lasting until October 18.
