It looks like some big changes are coming for Lexus, since the carmaker just revealed a new teaser of its unnamed concept car that is going to debut real soon. And it looks like the concept will also signal the arrival of the brand’s new design direction.
The teaser previews the rear of the mystery concept car and the big thing you’ll immediately notice is that the traditional ‘L’ badge is missing, with the full ‘Lexus name is in its place, instead. The slim LED taillights also differ from current Lexus models.
Incidentally, this is the second teaser of the new concept car, since Lexus already gave us a preview of its face a few weeks ago. It’s expected that the concept will be a crossover, which will feature a fully electric powertrain. At the core of the Lexus Electrified tech strategy is the firm’s Direct4 Wheel Drive Force Control, which is Lexus’ electric drive control system that is designed for next-generation Lexus EVs and hybrids.
Due for unveiling in the coming spring, this new model will illustrate the brand’s “intentions for the future”, said Lexus president Koji Sato in an earlier statement, and join the announcement of the Japanese automaker’s new vision for the brand. Of course, Japanese luxury car aficionados will already know that the technology precursor to this, the LF-30 concept, was shown at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.
This year will also see the launch of its first model under the new vision, said Lexus. The upcoming concept car was first revealed at last December’s outlining of the brand’s strategy, Lexus Electrified, when the concept’s front end was teased, displaying the signature spindle grille that was shown with an illuminated logo.
We’ll just have to wait and see if the concept is a preview of a new large crossover that has been strongly rumoured to be coming from the brand.
