Luck may seem to pass some by, while others, as they say – have it all. However, this presumption that luck is based on chance may not always hold true. According to Richard Wiseman, a psychology professor and author of “The Luck Factor”, our actions and mindset can be a huge determining factor that increases our chances of attracting positive things into our life, also known as luck.
After performing a 10-year study, he found that those who continuously had good luck responded to situations in similar ways. It was then that he found the four traits that lucky people have in common.
Leaping at Opportunities
People who keep an open mind and are flexible, puts them in situations where they are likely to meet new people and find new opportunities to network. If you keep talking to the same people and doing everything in the same way, it is difficult for new opportunities to find you. But a random meeting during a social gathering or an introduction may open up new potential for the future.
Intuition
Personality tests show that unlucky people are generally more tense and anxious, which can lead to indecisiveness. Lucky people on the other hand are quick to make decisions and spontaneously listen to their intuition. By trusting their gut, they act and make things happen more quickly.
Optimism
In a seemingly unlucky situation, lucky people are able to see the positive side of things and be overcomers. In one experiment, people were given a scenario where they are at a bank and an armed robber enters, fires a shot and it hits them in the arm. They were then asked to give their opinion on whether they see this as a lucky or unlucky event. Some people described this as extremely unlucky to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. But in contrast, others said that they felt lucky the bullet didn’t hit a vital organ where the outcome could have been much worse. Hence, the evidence that how people see a situation can have a great impact on their lives in general.
Resilience
Last but not least, one of the traits lucky people have in common – lucky people bounce back from bad and unpleasant situations quickly. They always see everything as a learning opportunity and a chance to do things differently. This keeps their expectation of the future positive and increases the likelihood of them continually living a lucky life.
