Italy and Singapore may be some 10,000km apart, but one thing unites us: the two countries are surrounded by sunny islands in the blue seas. Except, of course, we never had David Gandy diving in slow-mo off a yacht in white speedos.
Still, that makes Singapore a fertile stomping ground for yacht makers and prospecting owners to converge, as it most recently did at the Singapore Yachting Festival. Nearly 70 exhibitors descended upon ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove to display an armada of sleek white yachts bobbing in rippling waters like graceful swans.
Amongst the berthing boat builders, Italian marque Ferretti Yachts, brought in by local distributor Hong Seh Yachting, stood above the rest. Its selection of yachts is kitted out by some of Italy’s finest names in the interiors game. After all, the yacht builder is synonymous with elegance, craftsmanship, and unparalleled luxury, merging its technical prowess with Italian design savoir-faire.

Its tagline ‘Just Like Home’ sounds modest — until you are reminded that feeling at home on the seas means having to construct entire floating villas complete with creature comforts and space for the crew. These are often customisable — a task its builders are more than happy to fulfil.
“Compared to Western customers, there is a very different way of experiencing life on board,” explains Stefano de Vivo, chief commercial officer of Ferretti Group. “For instance, APAC buyers tend to ask for more customisations, like enclosed dining rooms, dedicated spaces for karaoke and mahjong, and fewer cabins because they cruise for shorter periods of time.”

For the showy: Ferretti 860

Comfort and relaxation are some of the most vital factors any boat builder has in mind, but the Ferretti 860 takes these needs and runs the nautical mile — up to 30 knots to be precise. The maker’s newest model measures just a hair’s breadth under 27m long, with a beam coming in at 6.22m. That’s enough space for four ensuite cabins and an uninterrupted stern area of over 30sqm — plenty of room for a crew of four and your guests to make merry in privacy.
Ferretti has also designed the 860 to blend the exterior with the comfort of the interior. Much of this is thanks to the massive floor-to-ceiling windows, offering views for days. Choose from two distinct interior styles, Classic and Contemporary. The Classic mood blends darker woods with warm, rich colours, while the Contemporary style showcases a lighter, more modern palette featuring monochromatic tones.
Our favourite part? There’s a garage for sea toys big enough for both a tender and a jet-ski — all of which can be launched directly into the water.

For the family man: Ferretti 780

If you’re out on the market looking for a yacht that will age gracefully, the Ferretti 780 is your answer. With an overall length of 24.01m and a maximum beam of 5.77m, this stunning vessel offers spacious and comfortable living spaces with four cabins, each with ensuite bathrooms.
The exteriors sport precious nooks to take in the joys of being out at sea. The two sections near the rear door, for instance, can be lowered to create two large sun pads so you can relax near the water’s edge. Or you may head to the private lounge in the forward area with a U-shaped sofa to soak in the view.
Inside, the vibe is calm and restrained, with top-end leather upholstery by Lealpell and Gentili Mosconi Home Collection of fabrics exclusively made for Ferretti Yachts. The living area is outfitted with a free-standing L-shaped sofa and a Living Divani coffee table facing a 65-inch TV. A dining area with a marble top seats up to eight guests on dark green leather chairs.
For its size and amenities, we’d champion this model for the owner with a young family. This is a classic that will age as timelessly as a fine piece of art.

For the new owner: Ferretti 500
Few yacht owners start out with a big, flashy model. For buyers looking to upgrade from simple day boating excursions, the Ferretti 500 would be the ideal option. It measures 15.33m in length with a beam of 4.33m — ideal for new owners learning the intricacies of owning a bigger toy. Indeed, while 50-foot models like the 500 are often the entry level option, Ferretti’s choice of interiors puts it on par with its larger, more luxurious cousins.
Choose between two distinct interior finishes spread across two well-appointed cabins: similar to the 860, the Classic is markedly darker with masculine oak hues accentuated with leather accents and brown fabric, while the Contemporary is the lighter option. The latter combines sandy shades, polished steel surfaces, and plush fabrics in shades of grey, light blue, and beige.

The 500 may be one of the smaller models produced by the Ferretti group, but it’s noted for being agile and able to make tight turns at cruising speeds of 24 knots. Only a dozen of these are scheduled to be built each year, so while they may be modestly sized, Ferretti spares no effort at making sure they are as comfortable as any other number.
