Volvo Car Malaysia Opens Registration Of Interest For Locally Assembled ES90 Electric Sedan

If you had your eye on the new Scandinavian EV, now’s the chance.

Volvo Car Malaysia is kick-starting 2026 in a pretty big way. The brand has officially opened registration of interest for the Volvo ES90, marking the arrival of the brand’s first locally assembled fully electric sedan in the Malaysian market. Scheduled to make its official debut in Q1 2026, the ES90 will join Volvo’s growing lineup of electrified vehicles produced locally.

Consumers can now register their interest via Volvo Car Malaysia. But it isn’t just first dibs on offer. As an early-bird privilege, the first 100 customers who book the ES90 between now and 31 March 2026 will receive a 2% incentive, with full details on variants and pricing to be announced closer to launch.

Volvo Milestone

The announcement comes as the brand celebrates six decades in Malaysia, a milestone that underscores the significance of introducing a locally assembled electric sedan. According to Patricia Yaw, Sales & Marketing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia, the ES90 represents both progress and continuity for the brand.

“As we mark 60 years since Volvo established its presence in Malaysia, it is especially meaningful to commemorate this milestone with the local assembly of the Volvo ES90, our first fully electric sedan,” she said. “Built on six decades of experience, customer insight, and ongoing innovation, the ES90 reflects how far we have grown and evolved as a brand.”

Advanced Platform

Volvo ES90

Technically, the ES90 is positioned as Volvo’s most advanced sedan to date. Built on the brand’s SPA2 platform, it features a fully software-defined architecture supported by Volvo’s Superset tech stack, allowing continuous improvement through over-the-air updates across the vehicle’s lifecycle.

At its core is an 800-volt electrical architecture, enabling ultra-fast charging speeds of up to 350 kW. This allows the ES90 to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in approximately 22 minutes or gain up to 300 kilometres of range in just 10 minutes. The sedan delivers up to 333 PS and 480 Nm of torque, with an estimated WLTP range of up to 651 kilometres on a single charge.

The ES90 will also be the first Volvo to feature the NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin computing system, making it the brand’s most powerful vehicle in terms of processing capacity. The system underpins next-generation safety intelligence, AI integration, and data-driven optimisation, reinforcing Volvo’s long-standing focus on safety and innovation.

With its blend of local assembly, advanced technology, and electric performance, the ES90 signals Volvo’s next chapter in Malaysia’s rapidly evolving premium EV landscape.
