What It Is

For Vacheron Constantin, the combination of a platinum case and salmon-toned dial is a long-standing tradition. The Genevan brand has applied this classic combination to the latest version of the Traditionnelle Perpetual Calendar Chronograph, which is also available in platinum with a black dial, or pink gold with a silver dial. As of now, this combination will be reserved for boutique-exclusive pieces produced in limited quantities every year.

How It Works

Powered by the manual-winding Calibre 1142 QP, built upon a well-loved Lemania base movement, the timepiece combines two popular complications: the perpetual calendar and a chronograph. The perpetual calendar, of course, automatically accounts for the different number of days each month, and doesn’t require adjusting until 2100, if kept wound. Apertures at the top of the dial display the day and month, while the date is visible via a pointer display at 6 o’clock. The watch’s 30-minute chronograph features a column-wheel system, which is more labour-intensive to produce than a cam-actuated one, and delivers a smooth operating experience.

How It Looks

Vacheron Constantin’s Traditionnelle collection is inspired by traditional Genevan high watchmaking and the Traditionelle Perpetual Calendar Chronograph continues that legacy for a modern audience with its contemporary, 43-mm diameter. Naturally, finishings on the watch are top-notch, from the snailed centres of the subdials bordered by circular satin-brushed rings to the hand-bevelled components of the movement. Another charming feature is the moon-phase display with two faces, one smiling and the other melancholic — a detail inspired by 19th-century table clocks.
