Watches and Wonders 2023: Hublot

Hublot, the Swiss luxury watch brand, makes a grand entrance at Watches and Wonders 2023, the prestigious international watch fair.

With its cutting-edge designs, unique materials, and innovative movements, Hublot has carved a niche for itself in the world of high-end horology.

Founded in 1980 by Italian entrepreneur Carlo Crocco, the brand has been consistently pushing the boundaries of watchmaking. Creating timepieces that are not only visually stunning but also technologically advanced. At Watches and Wonders 2023, Hublot showcases its latest collections, highlighting its expertise in fusion and haute horlogerie.

Hublot MP-13

Hublot has written a new chapter in the MP story, a collection of masterpieces embodying disruptive, creative, and technical Haute Horlogerie that appeals to collectors eager to discover the watchmaking of tomorrow. With the release of its latest model, the MP-13, Hublot defies conventions and superstitions surrounding the number 13. The 44mm MP-13 boasts a brushed titanium case and brings together two unique complications, the tourbillon and the retrograde display, for the first time. These complications are no ordinary ones.

Hublot has achieved a considerable feat with the MP-13’s tourbillon, featuring two axes, and is among the few watchmakers capable of manufacturing a double-axis tourbillon entirely in-house. The tourbillon rotates at two speeds, one axis completing a full rotation every minute, while the other takes only 30 seconds. The result is a hypnotic and technical view.

Hublot further enhances the tourbillon’s magic with two refined attributes, a suspended and skeletonized design. The upper bridge is done away with, and each component is pared back to allow light to pass through unobstructed. The space surrounding the tourbillon at 6 o’clock has been opened up and is protected by anti-reflective sapphire crystal on both sides, amplifying the visual effect.

Hublot MP-13  an Extraordinary Timepiece

As always, Hublot is dedicated to ensuring the daily use of each MP-13, guaranteeing a power reserve of at least four days or 96 hours. The MP-13’s movement is also bi-retrograde, a feature never seen before in a double-axis skeleton tourbillon. Another unique feature of this timepiece is the minute hand moving steadily. While the hour hand skips instantly from one hour to the next, optimizing the daily experience for the wearer. The MP-13 offers 96 hours of power, with the power reserve indicator located at 11 o’clock.

The MP-13 Tourbillon Bi-Axis will only be produced as a limited edition, with just 50 numbered pieces. The watch has a full satin finish and a black rubber strap. It is made entirely of titanium, containing 374 components.

The Big Bang Integrated Tourbillon Full Carbon

Hublot continues to push the limits of horological innovation with the Big Bang Integrated Tourbillon Full Carbon, a limited edition masterpiece that fuses traditional Fine Watchmaking with cutting-edge technology. Only 50 pieces have been issued, and the result is a perfectly harmonized work of art.

Fusing materials, finishes, designs, colours, alloys, techniques, and aesthetics is at the heart of Hublot’s philosophy. The Big Bang Integrated Tourbillon Full Carbon exemplifies this approach by integrating a micro-rotor tourbillon and a robust carbon fibre and Texalium case into a single, seamless unit. The strap alone, designed, manufactured, and assembled in-house, is a featherweight 26 grams and supremely comfortable.

The watch comprises two genuine complications, the tourbillon, and the micro-rotor, both crafted by Hublot’s Nyon-based manufacturer. The tourbillon is skeletonized and suspended, integrated within a bottom plate dotted with transparent sapphire bridges. The movement is inserted into a carbon fibre case that is 43mm in diameter, which is both ultra-light and robust.

Pushing The Limits of Horological Innovation

To ensure durability, Hublot has covered the casing with Texalium, a new fusion of materials combining a fibreglass core with a thin top layer of aluminium. The fibreglass is integrated with a special resin to provide impact resistance, while the aluminium is 99.99% pure and scratch-resistant. The result is a watch that is both lightweight and tough.

The Big Bang Integrated Tourbillon Full Carbon is an exclusive work of art. The Hublot Manufacturer is 100% integrated and masters every aspect of fabrication. While harmonizing the casing and movement, right down to the smallest of details. Each piece is individually numbered. And the permeable structure of the openwork backplate allows light to penetrate to the heart of the movement. It is a perfect fusion of aesthetics and technique. The only one in the world with a monobloc component of this kind.

SQUARE BANG UNICO SAPPHIRE

Hublot caused a stir at the 2022 edition of Watches & Wonders by introducing a new square-shaped watch design – the Square Bang Unico, inspired by the iconic Big Bang. The watchmaker is traditionally accustomed to working with round cases. However, crafting a square shape was a real feat of craftsmanship. The Square Bang Unico retained all the distinct features that contributed to the Big Bang Unico’s popularity. Including the 6 functional H-shaped screws, one of the Maison’s signature features. The Square Bang Unico was met with great enthusiasm from clients and collectors alike.

A Year Later

Hublot has taken the model to new heights by creating the Square Bang Unico Sapphire. A limited edition of 250 pieces, which showcases the Maison’s exceptional skills through the use of sapphire. Despite the two-fold challenge of its square format and multi-layered sapphire construction, the watch is water-resistant to a depth of 5 ATM. The renowned Unico movement, manufactured in-house, also retained all the distinct features on which its reputation is founded.

SQUARE BANG UNICO in BLACK MAGIC

Above all, Hublot has also released two new editions of the Square Bang Unico, in white and black ceramic. Further solidifying its position as a pioneer and leader in the use of ceramics. Each of these three models is fitted with a rubber strap and a titanium deployant buckle clasp.

The One Click interchangeable system is developed exclusively by Hublot. It allows for a personalized touch by choosing from an extensive range of optional straps. The Square Bang Unico’s success and evolution over the past year demonstrate Hublot’s technical expertise. While pushing the boundaries of haute horology and staying true to its iconic design.
