First introduced in 1962, the Rado Captain Cook remains an important diving watch in the Swiss watchmaker’s history. Following multiple iterations, the brand now adds a new addition to its family in the form of a model presented in high-tech ceramic.
Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Chronograph blends rugged performance with unmistakable style, setting a new benchmark in modern watchmaking. Described as “rugged, athletic and devastatingly good looking”, the new chronograph is both a technical triumph and a fashion-forward accessory.
For the first time in the Captain Cook series, a high-tech ceramic monobloc case is used for the chronograph model. Combined with a ceramic bezel insert and bracelet, the result is a remarkably lightweight and scratch-resistant watch that offers outstanding comfort and durability.
Rugged And Stylish
The box-shaped sapphire crystal is virtually impervious to scratches, while the case is water-resistant up to 30 bar — ideal for use in a wide range of demanding environments. Two striking colourways are offered for 2025.
Opt for a bold black and rose gold version, evoking the glow of a city skyline at night or a refined plasma and dark green design. The latter is a first for the Captain Cook family and it lends a sleek, contemporary edge.
Each model features dual-finishing on the bracelet links and finely detailed chronograph pushers. Inside, the Rado calibre R801 automatic movement offers a robust 59-hour power reserve, housed within a case just 16.2mm high — making it as wearable as it is technical.
The chronograph dial is thoughtfully balanced, featuring three subdials, bold Super-LumiNova hands and indices for optimal readability, and red-tipped chronograph hands for easy timing. A rotating anchor symbol at 12 o’clock and trapezoidal date window at 6 o’clock add unique visual flair.
Beyond its functionality, what truly sets this watch apart is Rado’s hallmark high-tech ceramic — a material first introduced in 1986. With its silky texture, exceptional lightness, and resistance to scratches and temperature changes, it delivers a uniquely tactile experience.
The ceramic undergoes an advanced sintering process involving precision moulding and high-temperature firing, producing a density and hardness far beyond standard ceramics. In every sense, the new Rado Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Chronograph embodies the brand’s mastery of materials and dedication to innovation — a watch as ready for the wild as it is for the boardroom.
