The adidas Samba has spent decades moving beyond its sporting origins. Once a football shoe, it has become one of fashion’s most recognisable silhouettes — a cultural staple that has proved remarkably adaptable along the way.
Now, the classic gets a distinctly automotive interpretation.
The new adidas Samba OG x Mercedes-Benz brings together the German sportswear brand’s enduring sneaker with design cues drawn from Mercedes-Benz, including a detail inspired by the diamond stitching found inside the S-Class. Available from 13 October, the limited-edition release also marks the beginning of a wider strategic partnership between the two brands.
Rather than reinventing the Samba’s familiar shape, the collaboration takes a more considered approach: retaining the silhouette while allowing Mercedes-Benz’s design vocabulary to appear through materials, detailing and branding.
Where Automotive Design Meets Street Culture

The most distinctive reference comes from the Mercedes-Benz S-Class interior. Diamond-pattern stitching, associated with the marque’s approach to automotive luxury, is translated onto the shoe’s upper, giving the otherwise recognisable Samba a more tactile and automotive character.
The Mercedes-Benz three-pointed star appears prominently on the tongue, while the colour palette keeps the overall treatment restrained. Magic Beige, Grey Five and Black give the shoe a monochromatic feel, allowing its details rather than overt branding to carry the collaboration.
It is an approach that reflects the appeal of the Samba itself. Its longevity has less to do with constant reinvention than with its ability to absorb new cultural contexts without losing its identity.
Here, Mercedes-Benz applies the same principle from a different direction.
Two Icons, One New Chapter

The collaboration arrives during Mercedes-Benz’s 140 Years of Innovation anniversary, making the project an opportunity to look beyond the car itself and at the wider cultural territory occupied by the brand.
Mercedes-Benz and adidas may operate in very different industries, but both have built global identities around products that have moved beyond their original functional purpose. The Samba is no longer simply a sports shoe; Mercedes-Benz has similarly evolved from an automotive manufacturer into a broader design and lifestyle presence.

That makes the partnership more significant than a single sneaker release. The Samba OG x Mercedes-Benz is the first expression of a strategic relationship that is expected to extend into further projects and collaborations.
For now, its appeal lies in the simplicity of the idea: take one of the most recognisable sneakers in modern style and give it a distinctly Mercedes-Benz point of view.
The result is less about putting a car brand on a sneaker than asking what happens when two established design languages meet on familiar ground.
