First introduced in 1957, the Superocean Heritage was notable for diverging from the utilitarian look of most dive watches of its era. Now, Breitling has unveiled the latest incarnation of the beloved model, which has been meticulously refined.
The good news is that despite the refresh, the Superocean Heritage remains true to its original spirit, exemplifying ocean-going performance and sophisticated style. Designed for the modern-day adventurer, the new collection is more streamlined and versatile than ever, with enhancements made across materials, mechanics, and form.
Refined Execution
Central to the refresh is the introduction of the Breitling B31, the brand’s first exclusive three-hand manufacture calibre, launched in March 2025. This movement now powers the automatic models in 40 mm, 42 mm, and 44 mm sizes. The 36 mm version is fitted with the Calibre 10, while the 42 mm chronograph houses Breitling’s flagship Manufacture Calibre 01.
From a design perspective, the Superocean Heritage remains recognisably classic, but with noticeable upgrades. A more refined case profile, thinner lugs, and integrated bracelets – available in both mesh-metal and mesh-style rubber – contribute to improved wearability and a sleek, seamless fit. All bracelets feature a folding clasp for enhanced security and comfort.
The watch’s iconic spear-and-arrow hands and pointed hour markers return, ensuring at-a-glance legibility that made the original a favourite among professional and recreational divers alike. A discreet date aperture at six o’clock and tone-on-tone chronograph subdials lend a sense of balance and symmetry across the dial.
Maritime Inspiration

The colour palette has been pared back to timeless maritime tones – black, blue, and green – each paired with a ceramic bezel inlay for superior scratch resistance. Select models also introduce responsibly sourced 18k red-gold bezels, offering a touch of luxury without compromising the tool-watch ethos of the line.
While the Superocean Heritage has always been about function at sea, it has never lost sight of elegance. Breitling CEO Georges Kern explained that the Superocean Heritage is the brand’s most elegant sea watch, and this update is all about refinement. “Every detail has been perfected – but the spirit stays the same. It’s about style at sea.”

To coincide with the launch, Breitling is also releasing a limited edition co-designed with 11-time world surfing champion Kelly Slater. The brand has also launched a sunglasses collaboration with British eyewear house Cutler and Gross. Breitling has also teamed up with Brazilian footwear brand Havaianas for a set of special-edition sandals, reinforcing the collection’s deep ties to surf culture and lifestyle.
The accompanying campaign, shot in Hawaii, captures the modern-retro aesthetic and carefree spirit of the Superocean Heritage – a watch designed to transition effortlessly from the waves to the waterfront. With this update, Breitling has ensured that the Superocean Heritage remains not only a watch for the ocean but a definitive statement of style for those who live for the sea.
