Sportscars are often considered works of art. Occasionally art pieces inspired by these machines can fetch a value that even rivals their four-wheeled counterparts. Case in point, this Porsche 934 sculpture by artist Benedict Radcliffe.
Last week a buyer paid £201,000 for a 1:1 scale wireframe artwork of a Porsche 934. Incidentally, the final sale price is over three times that of an iconic 930-series 911 Turbo.
Sold on global auction platform, Collecting Cars, the model drew over 6000 views. Across the seven-day auction, it managed to garner 218 bids.
Ultimately the winning bid was secured by a collector in Asia. The winning price is over three times more expensive than a usable 911 Turbo of the same era, or as much as a low-mileage example (£180,500 in February 2024) sold on Collecting Cars.
“The Porsche 934, in its Jägermeister livery, is one of the most iconic racing cars of its type, and this sale of the sculpture that it evokes, is one that will go down in the history books,” explains Edward Lovett, Founder and CEO of Collecting Cars. “We can’t wait to see the sculpture in situ with our client in Asia – it’s going to be a great talking piece.”
The hand-crafted wireframe sculpture, a meticulous homage to the legendary Porsche 934 racing car, captures the essence of its design in stunning detail. First seen in 2022 at Milan Design Week, the sculpture was showcased at the prestigious Larusmiani store on Via Monte Napoleone.
It later travelled to Beijing and Shanghai, where it was exhibited in collaboration with Porsche China, further solidifying its international acclaim.
