For a watchmaker whose history stretches back more than 185 years, the idea of time is naturally expressed through permanence. In Kuala Lumpur, that philosophy now takes physical form in a new standalone destination.
The Hour Glass has officially opened its first Patek Philippe boutique in Kuala Lumpur at The Gardens Mall, marking a new chapter in the relationship between the Singapore-based luxury watch retailer and the Geneva manufacture. Previously operating as an authorised retailer, The Hour Glass now presents Patek Philippe in a dedicated environment designed around collecting, craftsmanship and hospitality.
Developed in close collaboration with Patek Philippe’s headquarters, the boutique has been conceived less as a conventional retail space and more as a private setting for discovering the manufacture’s world.
A Boutique Designed Around The Collector

The experience begins at a dedicated reception desk, framed by a striking straw marquetry wall that leads towards the watch gallery and presentation areas. A dedicated exhibition corner traces key moments in Patek Philippe’s history, giving visitors an opportunity to explore the manufacture’s legacy alongside its contemporary collections.
The design deliberately evokes an art gallery. Display niches are finished in raspberry-red velvet, recalling the showcases found within Patek Philippe’s historic Geneva salons, while the layout gradually transitions from public areas into increasingly private spaces.
Two presentation rooms lead to an intimate private lounge complete with bar. Designed to accommodate events, private presentations and timepiece handovers, the spaces can be adapted throughout the day depending on how they are being used.

For Patek Philippe Southeast Asia Managing Director Deepa Chatrath, the intention was to create something more personal than a traditional boutique.
“We want to create a welcoming sanctuary for Malaysian watch enthusiasts where local hospitality blends seamlessly with our rich Genevan heritage.”
She adds that the destination reflects the manufacture’s commitment to regional collectors, providing an intimate environment in which to experience the heritage of the independent, family-owned watchmaker.
Geneva Meets Malaysia

The boutique’s most compelling details are found in the dialogue between Patek Philippe’s traditional craftsmanship and its Malaysian setting.
The manufacture’s celebrated Rare Handcrafts, which encompass techniques such as engraving, enamelling and other forms of artisanal decoration, have inspired a series of architectural installations created specifically for the space.
Among them is a large sculpted-wood artwork depicting the Malayan tiger, its form hand-carved as a bespoke centrepiece for the boutique. At the bar, another artwork takes inspiration from Patek Philippe Ref. 20092M-001, Batik on Black, a dome clock featuring cloisonné enamel, hand engraving and miniature painting.
Its floral and regional patterns reinterpret the visual language of traditional Southeast Asian batik, giving the boutique a distinctly Malaysian dimension while remaining rooted in Patek Philippe’s own decorative arts tradition.
A New Chapter For The Hour Glass

For The Hour Glass, the opening represents more than an expansion of its retail footprint.
“The opening of our boutique at The Gardens Mall marks a defining chapter in our enduring partnership with Patek Philippe in Kuala Lumpur,” says SK Teh, General Manager of The Hour Glass Malaysia. He describes the space as a destination where collectors can immerse themselves in the manufacture’s heritage and craftsmanship, while also acknowledging the longstanding relationship between The Hour Glass and the Stern family.

That history is now embodied in a permanent Kuala Lumpur address designed not merely to display watches, but to provide a setting in which their stories can be explored.
With its combination of Genevan tradition, Malaysian references and a more intimate approach to hospitality, the new Patek Philippe boutique positions collecting as an experience rather than a transaction—one where craftsmanship, history and the passage of time take centre stage.
