Panerai Introduces Bronze To The Iconic Luminor Marina For The First Time

A heritage-driven tool watch with upgraded specs and a unique evolving patina.

Panerai brings bronze to the Luminor Marina for the first time.

Panerai is expanding its bronze legacy once again. Following the success of the revamped Luminor Marina models in steel and titanium unveiled at Watches and Wonders 2025, the brand now brings bronze to its most emblematic collection. The result is the Panerai Luminor Marina Bronzo PAM01678, the very first Luminor Marina ever crafted in this distinctive alloy, and one that’s already shaping up to be a future favourite among collectors.

Rooted In Maritime History

The PAM01678 pairs a gradient blue sandwich dial with the new P.980 movement.

Bronze has long been associated with the sea. Before stainless steel became the standard, it was the material of choice for ship fittings and vintage yachts thanks to its resistance to seawater. Panerai embraced this heritage back in 2011 with the release of the Luminor Submersible Bronzo PAM00382, a watch that sparked the modern bronze-watch phenomenon.

But in the hands of Panerai, bronze is different. The Maison uses a special alloy composed of pure copper and pure tin, engineered to develop a rich and highly individual patina. This controlled ageing process has become one of the brand’s signatures.

The metal starts with a warm, gold-like glow, gradually darkening as it reacts to air, moisture and everyday wear. The result is a protective surface layer that doesn’t affect durability but gives each watch a look that’s entirely unique to its owner.

Classic Luminor DNA

Its bronze case develops a unique patina over time, and the upgraded 50-bar water resistance makes it ready for any adventure.

The PAM01678 stays true to the Luminor Marina formula while incorporating all the upgrades introduced in the new collection. The iconic crown-protecting bridge remains front and centre—a feature originally designed to prevent water from seeping into the case during military dives.

The signature sandwich dial, known for its exceptional low-light legibility, returns as well, complete with a rhodium small-seconds display at 9 o’clock. This time, the dial arrives in a matte dark blue gradient, shifting from deep navy at the edges to a lighter centre.

Beige Super-LumiNova® fills the numerals and hands, pairing perfectly with the warm tones of the bronze case. In a nod to Panerai’s 1960s models, the dial keeps things deliberately clean: no date window, just pure Luminor Marina identity.

The New P.980 Calibre

Turn the watch over and you’ll find an open sapphire case back showcasing Panerai’s new P.980 automatic movement. It offers a three-day power reserve, a traversing balance bridge for shock resistance, and a stop-seconds function for precise time-setting. The movement has also been tested in six positions to ensure reliable accuracy—another example of Panerai prioritising performance inside and out.

Ready For The Deep

A tool watch for modern adventurers.

Like the rest of the updated Luminor Marina line, the PAM01678 features upgraded water resistance of 50 bar. This impressive figure is made possible by the slimmed-down proportions of the P.980 calibre and advancements in case construction.

True to Panerai tradition, water-resistance testing is carried out in actual water at 25% above the stated rating—a level of rigour few brands match.

The watch arrives with streamlined lugs and comes on a blue calf leather strap with beige stitching for a vintage feel, plus an additional blue rubber strap for sportier wear. Available exclusively through Panerai Boutiques and retail partners, the Luminor Marina Bronzo PAM01678 is built for individuals who appreciate heritage, purpose and unmistakable character—all wrapped in a metal that evolves with their journey.
