Rolls-Royce has produced some of the world’s most bespoke commissions on four wheels. But its latest model has struck a chord with those with a penchant for 80s nostalgia. Feast your eyes on the Black Badge Ghost Gamer, a one-off Bespoke commission inspired by the vibrant 8-bit world of vintage arcade culture.
Blending ultra-luxury craftsmanship with retro gaming nostalgia, the commission celebrates the cultural significance of arcades and their rising status as coveted collectables. Created for a client with a profound love of late-1970s and 1980s video game culture, this one-off motor car blends the marque’s hallmark craftsmanship with the vivid, blocky character of the 8-bit universe.

The result is a Rolls-Royce that functions not only as an ultra-luxury motor car but also as a collector’s artefact—one that celebrates the era that shaped modern interactive entertainment.
“This brief was particularly exciting,” says Bespoke Designer Joshua McCandless. “We immersed ourselves in the 8-bit aesthetic… We wanted the client to feel that the motor car itself was an immersive experience—recreating the thrill of pressing ‘start’ on an arcade machine.”
Arcades: A Cultural Touchstone Now Entering Collectable Territory

Once the heartbeat of youth culture, arcades were the social epicentre of the digital frontier—places where the world first encountered computer-generated worlds, pixelated enemies, and joystick-driven escapism. Today, as the gaming industry has grown into one of the world’s most influential entertainment sectors, early arcade memorabilia has surged in desirability.
Cabinets, consoles, cartridges and artwork from the era have become increasingly sought after by collectors, not only for their nostalgic pull but for their historical value as the genesis of contemporary gaming.

This cultural resurgence forms the backbone of the Black Badge Ghost Gamer. It is Rolls-Royce’s first venture into arcade-inspired design, and it captures a moment in which gaming heritage is being reassessed as a legitimate luxury collectable category.
Exterior: Pixel Art Meets Automotive Grandeur

The motor car’s striking two-tone exterior pairs Salamanca Blue with a shimmering Crystal over Diamond Black upper. This palette evokes the neon glow and metallic sheen of classic arcade cabinets. A hand-painted ‘Cheeky Alien’ motif, fashioned from 89 tiny “pixels”, runs along the Coachline in vibrant retro colours. Completing the look are the Illuminated Pantheon Grille and Black Badge seven-spoke wheels.
Interior: Designed for Digital-Age Nostalgia

Inside, the Black and Casden Tan cabin becomes a luxurious reimagining of arcade iconography. The seats are embroidered with Player 1–4 designations in an 8-bit typeface, accompanied by pixel-style alien motifs on the headrests. The Waterfall panel between the rear seats transforms into a retro lunar battle scene, meticulously hand-painted over two weeks to capture the graphic texture of vintage cabinet artwork.

Hidden “Easter eggs”—from engraved motifs to concealed metal aliens—encourage exploration, reflecting the thrill of discovering secrets in early games.
The ‘Laser Base’ Illuminated Fascia features a star-field gunship motif, while the ‘Pixel Blaster’ Starlight Headliner showcases 80 fibre-optic battlecruisers firing animated laser beams across the ceiling. Even the treadplates play along, greeting occupants with prompts such as “PRESS START” and “INSERT COIN”.
