The global gastronomic community gathered in Turin, Italy, for the 2025 edition of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, where Maido, the acclaimed Nikkei restaurant in Lima, Peru, was named the World’s Best Restaurant. Maido, led by chef-owner Mitsuharu ‘Micha’ Tsumura, rose from No.5 in 2024 to claim the top position.
Renowned for its artful fusion of meticulous Japanese technique and bold Peruvian flavours, Maido offers a multi-course tasting experience rooted in seasonality and cultural storytelling. From the signature “Maido!” welcome to its final course, the restaurant reflects over 15 years of innovation and passion.

The event, hosted at Lingotto Fiere, celebrated culinary excellence across 22 territories and five continents, with ten new entries making their debut on the list. Maido, the World’s Best Restaurant 2025, was joined by Asador Etxebarri (No.2) in Atxondo, Spain, and Quintonil (No.3) in Mexico City in the ranking.
Among the standout individual accolades, Albert Adrià, chef-owner of Enigma (No.34, Spain), received the Estrella Damm Chefs’ Choice Award, the only award voted for by fellow chefs. Maxime Frédéric, pastry chef at Cheval Blanc Paris and Plénitude (No.14), was named The World’s Best Pastry Chef.
Mohamed Benabdallah of Asador Etxebarri was honoured as The World’s Best Sommelier for his exceptional wine expertise and pairings. Potong in Bangkok, Thailand, entered the list at No.13, earning the Highest New Entry Award of the year.
Asia On The Rise
Potong joined 13 other Asian restaurants on the list. This included Gaggan, Bangkok (The Best Restaurant In Asia 2025), which claimed the No.6 spot. Bangkok featured prominently on this year’s list with Suhring (No.22), Le Du (No.30) and Nusara (No.35).
Hong Kong staked its claim on the list with Wing (No.11), Sorn (No.17) and The Chairman (No.19). Tokyo claimed three spots with Sezanne (No.7), Narisawa (No.21) and Florilege (No.36). Odette (No.25) continues to fly the flag for Singapore on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants with Mingles, Seoul (No.29) and Le Cime, Osaka (No.44) rounding up the Asian entries.
