Over five decades after its debut, the iconic King Seiko VANAC makes a spectacular return in 2025. And its return is resolutely grand with a sporty new aesthetic and cutting-edge technology. Born in the early 1970s, the original VANAC line stood out for its bright colours, multifaceted designs, and bold personality.
Today, the new model pays homage to that innovative spirit while introducing a modern twist, blending performance, style, and Seiko’s unrivalled craftsmanship. The new King Seiko VANAC collection takes inspiration from the vast Tokyo skyline.
The dial of each model takes cues from this iconic horizon, capturing the beauty of the city at different moments of the day. With a refined horizontal stripe pattern, the dial creates depth and texture, while the hour markers are carefully set within a dedicated ring, adding a unique dimension to the timepiece.
At 12 o’clock, the index and counterweight of the seconds hand form the striking silhouette of the letter “V,” referencing the first letter of the model’s series name. The design of the timepiece takes inspiration from the original – angular and robust.
However, the bezel-less design introduces a streamlined elegance, giving the watch a sleek, thin profile that balances strength with sophistication. The newly developed bracelet features a mix of mirror and hairline finishes, resulting in a luxurious yet comfortable fit.
The watches are offered in three distinct dial colours—purple, navy, and silver—each representing a different time of day: evening twilight, midnight, and sunrise. These hues evoke the beauty of the Tokyo skyline at those very moments, making each watch a tribute to the dynamic city that inspired it.
Powered by Precision
At the heart of the new VANAC lies Seiko’s Caliber 8L45 mechanical movement, which combines high performance with a sophisticated design. With a 72-hour power reserve and an accuracy range of +10 to -5 seconds per day, the 8L45 movement ensures both precision and reliability, making it ideal for modern mechanical sports watches.
The stunning finishing of the movement can be admired through the sapphire crystal caseback—the first transparent case back in a King Seiko watch since the collection’s relaunch in 2022. This feature allows wearers to appreciate the intricate beauty of the movement.
To mark the return of the VANAC, Seiko is releasing two special editions that further highlight the brand’s innovation and attention to detail. The limited-edition watch shares the Tokyo sunrise theme with one of the main collection pieces but with a golden dial symbolising the golden hues of dawn.
The lettering and the King Seiko logo on the case back also take on a golden tone. This exclusive model will be limited to just 700 pieces, available in Seiko Boutiques and select retail stores worldwide starting in July 2025.
For those seeking something even more unique, the Seiko Boutique Exclusive features a serene ice blue dial, inspired by the bright blue sky of a clear Tokyo day. This model will only be available at Seiko Boutiques globally.
