Looks like the latest, fourth-generation Toyota Vellfire and Alphard with a host of cutting-edge features in the competitive MPV segment are set to reclaim their position as the most sought after people carrier everywhere. 

The Vellfire continues with the same powertrain as before –  the proven 2.5-litre 2AR-FE 4-cylinder engine and features dual Variable Valve Timing, with power going to the front wheels via a seven-speed CVT. Meanwhile, the new Alphard gets a brand new, turbocharged 2.4-litre 4-cylinder dual VVT-i engine.

Inside, The Vellfire comes with synthetic leather upholstery, with Ottoman seats offering powered recline, alongside seat air conditioner with ventilation which it shares with the Alphard. Meanwhile, the latter tops things up with premium Nappa leather upholstery and fully adjustable powered Ottoman seats with a massage function.

Finally, Mercedes-Benz has decided to fix an all-electric powertrain to its long-running luxe V-Class people mover! The new model also gets a large faux grille dominated by gloss black and new Multibeam LED headlights fitted up front.

Inside, things like air vents and switchgear have been modernised, bringing the cabin on par with the latest Mercedes-Benz passenger cars. Two 12.3-inch screens are standard – one as the digital instrument cluster and the other being a touchscreen for the infotainment system.

There’s also a wireless charger, keyless start, a 64-colour ambient lighting system, a powered tailgate and electronic parking brake. Driving assistance systems is also comprehensive, with Attention Assist, Headlamp Assist, Active Distance Assist, Active Brake Assist with cross-traffic function, Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Intelligent Speed Assist and Park Package.

Based on the latest fourth-generation Toyota Alphard / Vellfire, this ultra-luxurious MPV comes with even more tech and toys, along with greater differentiation over its more ‘pedestrian’ sisters.

With ample space in seven-seat or four-seat ‘Ottoman’ versions, its sumptuous leather seats and exquisitely crafted interior create an exclusive first-class welcome. The seven-seater’s middle row offers extra luxury, while the four-seater represents the pinnacle of comfort, with two fully reclining rear airline seats.

The base LM350h uses Toyota’s tried-and-true Hybrid Synergy Drive, consisting of a 2.5 litre A25A-FXS Dynamic Force naturally-aspirated Atkinson-cycle engine paired with an electric motor. Then, the top-spec LM500h gets a more serious Direct4 all-wheel-drive parallel hybrid powertrain, with a 2.4 litre T24A-FTS turbocharged mill giving 275 PS, with a six-speed automatic gearbox connected to an 87 PS/292 Nm electric motor.

This all-electric people mover is actually designed as a living room on the move, offering ultimate comfort and a premium travel experience! Of course, there’s no mistaking or anything but a Volvo MPV as out front, there’s the iconic Thor’s Hammer headlights, paired with that all too familiar logo that’s been illuminated (first time for a Volvo) for that added flash.

A 116kWh battery animates a 268bhp electric motor in this six-seater, triple row transporter,  allowing for a 0-100km/h time of 8.3 seconds, and a 738km range.

Inside, the vehicle’s dual-chamber air suspension and tyres optimised for silent running ensure passengers experience the on board 21-speaker Bowers and Wilkins premium system in its full glory! A 15.4-inch infotainment system comes complete with a voice assistant system that is visualised via a unique Volvo avatar.
