Don’t expect to be travelling much in the near future? That’s what the people at Montblanc thought. That might be why the luxury business lifestyle brand’s latest smartwatch, the Summit Lite, has a suite of proprietary apps that focuses on wellness rather than travel.
While previous versions of the Summit (2 and 2+) included traveller-centred apps such as Timeshifter — which helps frequent fliers prevent jetlag with updates and instructions based on their flight schedules — the Summit Lite features ‘streamlined functionalities to assist with fitness, performance and wellbeing’.
Developed based on ‘proven algorithms’, these apps include Cardio Coach, Body Energy, Sleep and Stress. Cardio Coach suggests personalised workouts based on your fitness level, including live coaching advice. Body Energy, on the other hand, ‘tracks mental and physical exhaustion to show the user’s current energy level’. Using your sleep, activity and stress data, the Summit Lite ostensibly helps the user see how their behaviour influences their energy levels and thus helps them to plan their day accordingly.
Powered by Wear OS by Google, the Summit Lite can access its full ecosystem of apps and services, and is compatible with both Android and iOS smartphones. Like the Summit 2 and 2+, it runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset — which might disappoint tech-watchers on the lookout for smartwatches powered by the 4100 version announced last year.
The 43mm watch also features a new, streamlined design and a relatively lighter weight, thanks to the use of recycled aluminium and steel for its case. It has a 30.2mm Amoled display topped with Gorilla Glass, and is water-resistant to 5ATM — although we wouldn’t risk keeping it on while doing pool laps to meet those Cardio Coach goals. The Summit Lite comes in either matte black or matte silver-grey, and a fabric or rubber strap.
