As a six-time Formula 1 champion, Lewis Hamilton is without a doubt one of the best drivers in the world, earning his place among motorsport’s elite. In recognition of his achievements, IWC Schaffhausen (IWC) is paying homage to the British racing driver with the limited edition “Lewis Hamilton†Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Edition.
Hamilton knows his way around fashion and is just as comfortable in a trendy suit as he is an F1 racing suit on the track. It is no wonder IWC has decided to tap on Hamilton’s daring and expensive sense of style to design this special piece together.
“This partnership with IWC was incredibly exciting for me, and it’s been an honour to collaborate so closely with the watchmakers in Schaffhausen,†said Hamilton. “Together, we’ve designed a beautiful timepiece which combines two things I am really passionate about – craftsmanship and design – and I am so pleased with the result.â€
Limited to just 100 pieces, the watch features a black ceramic case with a Bordeaux-red dial with a crown and case-back ring made of 18-carat 5N gold, providing luxury accents. This is not a small watch by any means as it has a generous diameter of 46.5mm that is complemented by a Bordeaux-red textile strap around the wrist.
Found within the watch is an IWC 52615 calibre movement that utilises a Pellaton winding system and builds up an impressive power reserve of seven days. In addition, it has a perpetual calendar and it is mechanical programme automatically recognises the different months and adds a leap day every four years.
It even has a double moon phase display that simultaneously shows the lunar phase in the northern and southern hemispheres. According to IWC, this is accurate to 577.5 years so you never have to worry about adjusting it. All these displays are synchronised and can be easily adjusted via the crown.
