Hybrid show car Mercedes-AMG GT Concept reveals the future of driving.

Mercedes-AMG, the high performance division of Mercedes-Benz, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year with the unveiling of the show car, the Mercedes-AMG GT Concept. Currently being developed in the company’s headquarters in Affalterbach in southern Germany, this is the third model developed autonomously by Mercedes-AMG, after the highly successful SLS AMG and AMG GT.

The four-door sports car has been designed for everyday use, with a large tailgate and the variable interior and luggage compartment. The new coupé blends the high functionality of performance cars with the sportiness of the AMG GT sports cars. The “EQ Power+” identifier on the mirror cam is also an indication of the increased performance that can be expected from hybridisation at Mercedes-AMG. This show car is the second AMG model to bear the designation, which all performance hybrids from Mercedes-AMG will be given in future. The performance hybrid system combines a powerful 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine with an additional powerful electric machine, ensuring extremely immediate response and an extraordinarily high system performance. The sprint from 0-100 km/h can be made in less than three seconds.

The energy storage unit is more powerful than conventional hybrid batteries but, at the same time, more compact and lighter. The charging of the battery during the journey occurs via brake recuperation as well as with the aid of the combustion engine if the battery charge has dropped beneath a certain threshold value.
