Hublot and The Hour Glass recently held a grand soiree at the Antara Restaurant on Raja Chulan to officiate the launch of the Hublot Big Bang “Merdeka” — a timepiece that was specially created to mark the diamond jubilee of Malaysia’s independence. Guests in attendance included SK Teh, General Manager of The Hour Glass, Samantha Katie James who was nominated Miss Universe Malaysia for 2017, and prominent historian Tan Sri Khoo Kay Kim who brought guests back in time during a nostalgic sharing session. Singer-songwriter Ushera Yusof was also on hand to serenade the crowd with her sultry voice.
Limited to just 60 pieces, the new Hublot Big Bang “Merdeka†is the latest distinctive edition of the iconic Big Bang model that made its grand debut over a decade ago. Fitted with a 44mm micro-blasted ceramic case that comes in a gorgeous shade of deep blue, the watch comes paired with a matching strap in luxurious alligator leather adorned with gold stitches. These very same colours can also be seen on the canton of Malaysia’s iconic Jalur Gemilang (national flag) which bears the all too familiar crescent and the 14-point star known as the Federal Star.
Additional references of the diamond jubilee of Malaysia’s independence include the numbers ’60’ in gold located at 12 o’clock and the words ‘Merdeka’ engraved in yellow located on the underside of the ceramic case. Powering the watch is the Calibre HUB4100, a self-winding chronograph movement that comes fitted with a 42 hours’ power reserve.
