G.H. Mumm & Cie, situated in Reims in northern France, is one of the largest Champagne producers and it is currently ranked fourth globally based on number of bottles sold. Back in 1876, as a tribute to some of their most prestigious clients, G.H. Mumm decorated a few of their bottles with a crossed red silk ribbon (a reference to the Legion of Honour – the highest French order of merit for military and civil merits) and sealed them with an oval label.
Now, Maison G.H. Mumm has officially completed its iconic range of champagnes in Malaysia, with the introduction of its new hallmark cuvée, the Mumm Grand Cordon, as well as the Mumm Cordon Rosé. Also, both of the remarkable champagnes are distinctly housed in the revolutionary and award-winning bottle.
Breaking with the traditional codes of champagne, the new Mumm Cordon Rouge bottle was created in collaboration with English avant-garde designer Ross Lovegrove. It reinterprets the iconic Mumm Cordon Rouge red sash as a genuine red ribbon laser cut into the glass bottle. Unique to the premium champagne industry, the bottle will not have a front label; instead, the Mumm signature is screened directly on the glass in gold lettering.
The Mumm Grand Cordon’s exuberant bubbles and a brilliant, golden colour testify to the vibrancy of this champagne. Lush aromas of ripe peach, apricot and pineapple cascade from the glass, while it’s intense, complex flavours of fresh fruit and caramel morph into a long, lingering finish.
Meanwhile, the Mumm Cordon Rosé offers a refreshing antidote to the floral and sweet fruit flavours of traditional rosé champagne. This features Chardonnay grapes for elegance and Pinot Meunier grapes for roundness and balance.
