Decoding the trends of Spring/Summer 2018

A decidedly more relaxed, playful side.

Eclectic doesn’t even begin to define menswear this season. A decidedly more relaxed, playful side was revealed for 2018 with sportswear and street style taking on oversized silhouettes and even louder statements. Tropical prints (read Hawaiian) were seen on some runways with only a Piña Colada short of a full look. Cartoons adorned everything from boiler suits to jackets. 80s Art Of The Deal cool made a comeback with less unctuous You Know Who and Gordon Gekko, more knowing Bret Easton Ellis. Trousers are looser, shoulders are wider. Designers also dared with sequins and pastels, turning gender definitions inside out. On every fashion industry executive’s lips, the name Gosha Rubchinskiy — the new hot shot designer to look out for this season is one Russian connection everyone wants.

Wider shoulders, large shirts and loose trousers are revisited but worn with a knowing and confidence that is totally au courant.
