The story of Bakhache Jewellery begins with a profound love for vintage treasures. With an innate understanding of the art of fine jewellery, Bakhache Jewellery embodies the essence of curated opulence, where every piece reflects a collector’s devotion to the intricacies of design and the allure of unparalleled luxury.
“I have been a jeweller and a gemologist for more than 35 years and have helped establish big jewellery brands in Asia from all over the world. My love for vintage jewellery started many years ago when I visited antique stores and auction houses both in Europe and the US,” shares the visionary founder, Antoine Bakhache, a distinguished name in the industry with over 35 years of experience as a jeweller and gemologist.
The recent inauguration of the Bakhache Jewellery boutique in Seibu, The Exchange TRX, marked a significant milestone in the brand’s journey.
“I have been selling the curated vintage collection of Bakhache for the past few years through our private house in Bangsar, and the response has been overwhelming. This made me realize that having a more public location, namely the new Seibu at The Exchange TRX, would be a good idea to showcase the special pieces that we curate and, therefore, share the full collection with the public. We are now able to tell the story to a bigger audience which is exciting,” he says.
Bakhache Jewellery’s global appeal is not a mere coincidence. With trunk shows in Melbourne and Sydney, and partnerships in Bangkok with Lotus Art de Vivre, the brand adapts to diverse tastes. Surprisingly, the discerning clientele worldwide shares a common appreciation for the rarity, intricacy, and finesse of Bakhache’s vintage jewellery.
At the heart of Bakhache Jewellery lies the meticulous process of handpicking each rare vintage gem. “Buying the right product at the right price is key,” he emphasises. “I look at how rare the piece is, how practical it is to use, how elegant and well finished it is and above all, at what price!” The selection process is an art in itself, ensuring that every acquisition aligns with the discerning taste of Bakhache’s clientele.
Recognised for unparalleled craftsmanship, Bakhache Jewellery places a premium on offering clients the highest quality in vintage jewellery. Each piece undergoes thorough checks by expert jewellers and meticulous reconditioning in the workshop, restoring it to its original glory.
More than half of Bakhache’s collection pays homage to iconic brands such as Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Boucheron, Bulgari, and Chaumet. The unique curation revolves around ensuring that none of the pieces is still in production, offering clients a glimpse into a bygone era when craftsmanship and artistry were paramount. “We want to provide what is not available anymore or extremely rare to find. Some of our pieces are unique and super rare as they were produced in the 40s or 50s when the big jewellery houses had only one or two stores in existence,” he notes.
Antoine Bakhache’s love for every piece he acquires is evident, but there are moments when a collection becomes particularly cherished. The French bird brooch collection from the 1950s and 1960s holds a special place in his heart, a labour of love to the painstaking effort put into gathering over ten stunning pieces.
As Bakhache Jewellery looks ahead, a beautifully acquired heritage location on High Street Armadale in Melbourne anticipates the opening of the second Bakhache store later this year. The brand envisions continued growth, expansion, and a commitment to storytelling through several trunk shows in Singapore, Bangkok, Sydney, and Melbourne.
“We will also curate brand-focused events where we showcase a full collection of 50 to 100 pieces from one single brand to bring out the heritage and legacy and help tell the story of the brand.”
