ARMANI/CASA
Armani/Casa’s new collection for the year, unveiled at the Salone del Mobile in Milan, took on the concept of colour and lightness. The series sees the combinations of the contemporary meeting the traditional and the urban taking on the natural in furnishings that are meant to be seen instead of fading into the background. The collection features red, indigo, green and petrol green, colour blocks that are juxtaposed against natural wood grain and flora for a sleek and elegant look. This is notably seen in the use of clear plexiglass against American walnut natural wood grain in the chequer-board inspired Net end tables as well as the Nilo coffee tables that create a floating optical illusion effect. The limited edition Club Bar Cabinet (pictured) makes a return this year in black straw marquetry finishing, a meticulously handmade process of dying, splitting and flattening rye straw, and applying it by hand over wood to create geometric patterns. Here, again, is that juxtaposition of natural rye straw marquetry against urban materials like the satin brass legs and grey lacquer interior.
