British independent car manufacturer Aston Martin has taken the wraps off its latest V12 Speedster, the company’s latest bid to build an exclusive, high-performance vehicle with a matching ultra-high price tag to boot.
The V12 Speedster was due to debut at the annual Geneva Motor Show that was ultimately cancelled due to the on-going Covid-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, Aston Martin went ahead with the unveiling of the V12 Speedster via an online presentation that definitely left the world stunned all the same.
It comes to no surprise that the V12 Speedster is first and foremost, a vehicle that is built for speed. Outfitted with a twin-turbo 5.2 litre V12 engine that is mated on an eight-speed automatic transmission, the V12 Speedster offers 700 horsepower and 555 pound-feet of torque. It is capable of going from 0 – 100km/h in just 3.5 seconds. Also, thanks to its carbon fibre construction, the V12 Speedster is able to achieve a maximum speed of nearly 300km/h.
Apart from the big numbers, the V12 Speedster is like a vintage racing car and an F/A-18 fighter jet had a child together. This is apparent in its design language as it sports a rather minimalistic design. The central focus of the car is the two-passenger seats that are separated individually by two elongated oval openings.
Inside the speedster, users will find hidden compartments and even glass panels that house matching race helmets and room for luggage.
The Aston Martin V12 Speedster is likely to be quite difficult to purchase given that only 88 will be made available. That is not forgetting that it has an ultra-high price tag of US$950,000 (MYR4 million) and that itself is just the starting price without considering the cost of customisation, whether you want your speedster to come with a range of leather, fabric textiles or 3D-printed rubber.
