The All-Electric BMW i3 Sets A New Milestone In The Age of Electric Mobility

The fully-electric driven BMW i3s offers sustainable luxury for the environmentally conscious.

BMW Malaysia has announced that its new all-electric vehicle, the BMW i3s is now available at authorised BMW i Dealerships around Malaysia.

With the future of mobility in mind, the newly introduced BMW i3s all-electric hatchback will be Malaysia’s first pure electric vehicle in the premium segment, coinciding with the nation’s aspiration towards building a low carbon society.

Powered by an electric engine with a performance of 135kW (184 hp) and a peak torque of 270 Nm, the EV can sprint from standstill to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. The car has a range of 260km on a single charge and has a top speed of 160km/h.

According to BMW’s product page, the car’s 120Ah battery can be charged by using a normal power socket and takes 15 hours to charge to 80%. If you are looking for a quicker charge and opt for the optional BMW i Wallbox Plus wall-mounted charging station that would provide a full charge in just four hours.

Alternatively, owners can also access ChargeEV charging facilities nationwide in partnership with GreenTech Malaysia.

Built to be sustainable

Apart from providing a greener drive with zero emissions, the BMW i3s boasts a 95% recyclability that inspires awe not just in the realm of vehicle recycling, but within the idea of sustainability itself.

As the manufacturer with the most comprehensive programme for reducing fuel consumption and emissions, BMW has been looking into the sustainability of the environment in the development of its automobile design, both in lowering carbon footprint and building vehicles with renewable, upcycled materials. The intertwining of both has culminated in the automaker’s latest addition to its BMW i profile earlier this year, the First-Ever BMW i3s.

Environmentally conscious to the finest detail, the interior surfaces of the BMW i3s are made of more than 80% renewable, natural and recycled materials. The instrument panel is made of beautiful open-pored eucalyptus wood sourced from 100% certified responsible forestry management, which, with its naturally moisture-resistant surface, requires 90% less surface processing than conventional wood.

To replace the traditional petroleum-based plastics used in most vehicles, the door lining and instrument panel cover of the i3s are made with fibres of the Kenaf plant, a plant belongs to the mallow family whose cultivation itself converts carbon dioxide into ozone-friendly oxygen.

The marks of nature end not just there. The BMW i3s’ car seats feature leather that is naturally-tanned with olive leaf extract, resulting in a supple finish and a fresh scent reminiscent of nature, to the pleasant surprise of the passengers on board.

To furnish the interior, 100% recycled polyester, 34% of which is sourced from PET bottles, is spun into fabric to cover the seats, floor linings, roof liners as well as foot mats of the i3s, replacing up to 25% of the thermoplastic synthetic materials found in conventional vehicles without forfeiting aesthetics and durability in the least.

The BMW i3s is now Available at Authorised BMW i Dealerships and is priced at RM278,800 on-the-road without insurance. The car comes with BMW’s 5-Year Unlimited Mileage Warranty with free scheduled service program and a BMW 2-Year Tyre Warranty Program for its Run Flat Tyre offering and services. Owners also enjoy access to BMW Roadside assistance and accidental hotline along with the BMW Group Loyalty+ Mobile app – BMW White Card.
