MINI Malaysia last week unveiled the all-new MINI Countryman, the second generation of the successful premium sports activity vehicle. Available in two variants – the MINI Cooper Countryman and MINI Cooper S Countryman – the vehicle is the largest and most versatile model in MINI’s 57-year history, and has been developed to reflect considerable advancements in the areas of space, functionality, athletic flair and premium characteristics.
The MINI Countryman is powered by the latest generation of the BMW Group’s three- and four-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engines.
The Countryman is powered by the latest generation of the BMW Group’s three- and four-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engines that make it faster, feistier and more fuel efficient than its predecessor. The Cooper Countryman runs on a 1.5-litre three-cylinder inline engine and is combined with a six-speed automatic Steptronic transmission. This allows it to deliver an output of 136hp and maximum torque of 220Nm. It sprints from zero to 100km/h in 9.6 seconds with a top speed of 200 km/h.
The Cooper S Countryman, meanwhile, houses a two-litre four-cylinder engine, producing a peak output of 192hp and maximum torque of 280Nm. It is able to accelerate from zero to 100km/h in just 7.4 seconds, reaching a top speed of 224km/h. The Cooper S Countryman also has an eight-speed transmission that enables impeccably fluid gear changes, while the Steptronic function allows the driver to choose between the ease of automatic shifting and the visceral thrill of the manual driving experience.
Now 20 centimetres longer and approximately three centimetres wider than its predecessor, the new Countryman features versatile roof rails to accommodate extra cargo, such as a roof rack, auto LED headlamps with cornering lights, foot-activated sensor to open and close the tailgate, a picnic bench that folds out of the boot and MINI Connected that offers an extensive range of in-car smartphones integration on a 6.5-inch, high-resolution screen.
The Countryman also introduces two new paint finishes that are for a MINI for the first time – Chestnut and Island Blue. Other colour schemes include British Racing Green, Chili Red, Light White, Melting Silver, Midnight Black, and Moonwalk Grey. The Thunder Grey scheme is available exclusively on the Cooper S Countryman. Prices for the Cooper Countryman and Cooper S Countryman start from MYR239,888 and MYR269,888, respectively, and come with the MINI Four Years Unlimited Mileage Warranty with Free Scheduled Service.
