Against the pastels of Duxton’s shophouse fronts’ in Singapore now sits an ashen hotel facade that can’t be missed. Spanning eight shophouse units, the anticipated establishment by luxury hospitality brand Six Senses opened its doors to the public just days ago, and already the rooms and suites are going fast.
Six Senses Duxton is the first and smaller of two Six Senses properties to be opened here this year; the latter, in Maxwell, is set for a year-end launch. As it’s housed in a building that’s been conferred heritage status, the Duxton had to work around an immutable layout – a challenge that celebrated UK designer Anouska Hempel faced down handily.
The result: a whopping total of eight room categories across the 49-room establishment, with no two fielding identical confirgurations (see gallery). Hempel’s versatility is also key to pulling the myriad of influences together in an east-meets-west design philosophy.
