German automobile manufacturer Porsche has officially debuted its latest super sports car Mission X concept, which is envisioned as the fastest road-legal hypercar, on the Grand Prix race track in Nürburg. The new concept Mission X, with its flat body, sculptural design and unmistakable motorsport DNA, was presented in celebration of the 75th-anniversary of the sports car brand.
“The Porsche Mission X is a technology beacon for the future sports car. It picks up the torch of iconic sports cars of decades past: like the 959, the Carrera GT, and the 918 Spyder before it, the Mission X provides a critical impetus for the evolutionary development of future vehicle concepts,” says Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG. “Daring to dream and dream cars are two sides of the same coin for us: Porsche has only remained Porsche by constantly changing.”
Precisely made with a luxurious overall impression, the Mission X concept study has the relatively compact dimension of the Carrera GT and 918 Spyder, with 20in wheels at the front and 21in wheels at the rear. At the same time, its sculpted form and muscular lines are finished under an elegant Rocket Metallic paint colour.
Speaking of the design, Mission X is a clear commitment to the ultimate in performance and modern luxury. The concept-study hypercar features elaborate details including a transparent aero blade on the rear axle and a lightweight glass dome, as well as Le Mans-style doors that open upwards to the front, an efficient electric powertrain and eye-catcher headlights. One special detail is the modernised and refined Porsche crest, which makes its debut on Mission X to convey the characteristics of the marque.
Strongly focused on the driver and passenger, the two seats are coloured differently in Kalahari Grey and Andalusia Brown, both crafted along with leather pads. There are multiple cameras on board for recording purposes. On the passenger side, a bayonet system is embedded in the instrument panel, to which the stopwatch module can be attached. The clocks are designed for both circuit and rally use.
Porsche exemplifies e-performance yet it is also a pioneer in sustainable mobility. While Mission X is currently a concept, Porsche has expressed its intention to go into production soon. At that time, Mission X will be the fastest series-production car of its time with “downforce values that are well more than those delivered by the current 911 GT3 RS” and “offer significantly improved charging performance with its 900-volt system architecture and charge roughly twice as quickly as Porsche’s current frontrunner, the Taycan Turbo S.”
