Meet the 6 new AMG 43 cars that will add some growl to your quiet suburban life

â€œWhy launch one when you can launch six!â€ exclaimed Mark Raine, Vice President Sales & Marketing Passenger Cars, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, when queried on why he chose to launch all six new Mercedes-AMG 43 models on the same day.

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of AMG and to celebrate that (in Malaysia at least) Mercedes-Benz offers up six new AMG 43 models to join the Mercedes-AMG family. By way of context, these 43s sit somewhere in the middle of the German marqueâ€™s more powerful, tuned up, passenger cars. On the top end, the AMG 63 badge is reserved for the V8 biturbo engines while on the lower end of the spectrum the AMG 45s provided a good entry point into the high-speed, high-performance world of Mercedes-AMG.

The 43s are the middle ground when weighing up the price vs performance factor. Each of the six models launched comes with a 3.0l V6 biturbo engines that pack in 360 â€“ 400hp and will take you from 0 â€“ 100 km/h in less than five seconds. The power, is delivered to the four wheels through a very special 9G-TRONIC transmission â€“ the worldâ€™s first 9-speed automatic transmission. With the power sorted, the handling is also well taken care of with Mercedesâ€™ 4MATIC technology that utilises all four wheels to make the most of the high torque coming out of the engine.

From a quick hands-on with the 43s, I can tell you these cars are definitely fun to drive when you decide to take it up a notch; but, on the plus side it still remain as practical (and just as comfortable) as any passenger vehicle out there. And because the AMG 43 is launched in E, SLC, C and CLA configurations, you have ample choice to find one that fits into your current garage. In other words, youâ€™ll have tons ammunition to convince the missus why the household needs a new â€œfamily car.â€
