Mercedes-Benz Introduces Its Next Generation GLC Premium SUVs

The new-generation Mercedes-Benz GLCs combine outstanding on and off-road driving characteristics with spaciousness, practicality and comfort.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has finally given its popular GLC range of luxury SUVs a much-anticipated facelift. Consisting of three models starting with the GLC 200, GLC 300 4MATIC and GLC 300 4MATIC Coupé.

Leading the pack is the GLC 300 Coupé AMG Line, which merges the best characteristics of an SUV and a coupé.

It comes powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine (M264), the GLC 300 Coupé produces 258 hp and 370 Nm on the road, allowing it to go from 0 – 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds.

This being Mercedes-Benz’s top-of-the-line model, it features some imposing AMG characteristics such as its characteristic diamond radiator grille that catches the eye. With sport aprons and 20-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels, the GLC 300 Coupé has a distinctive sporty edge.

You also get Multibeam LED headlamps that allow for glare-free high beam, illuminating the way ahead without blinding vehicles ahead of you.

Inside, the GLC 300 Coupé boasts a host of intelligent comfort functions including a revamped Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system paired with Mercedes me connect allows drivers to interact and access information with just the sound of their voice. A 10.25-inch media display with touch functionality paired with a 12.3-inch instrument cluster serves as the main interface.

Leather upholstery and light longitudinal-grain aluminium trim add a contemporary feel to the inside of the vehicle.

True to its sporty characteristics the GLC 300 Coupé features sports suspension. It also comes with Mercedes-Benz’s Pre-Safe system that utilises sensors placed throughout the vehicle to anticipate any imminent collisions and prepares to protect the passenger by tightening the front seatbelts and adjust the front head restraints and even close the windows and sunroof.

The GLC 200 and GLC 300 4MATIC

The new GLC clearly have some design tweaks with muscularly sculpted surfaces, chrome elements that run from the front to the rear and redesigned LED headlamps. Even the GLC 200 exhibits a strong off-road character thanks to the heavily contoured radiator grille. All this is included in the Optical Off-road package, along with 20-inch 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels.

The GLC 300, on the other hand, comes equipped with the Night Package which is based off the AMG Line. Boasting a striking black design that underlines the vehicle’s sportier side, it comes with 20-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels and Multibeam LED headlamps that feature individually controllable LEDs. That is not all, there is also a panoramic sliding sunroof that allows plenty of light to illuminate the vehicle’s interior.

Taking a look inside, there are numerous changes that enhance the interiors of the GLC 200 and GLC 300, each are adorned with the Exclusive Line and AMG Line packages respectively. Both come with illuminated door sills where the word “Mercedes-Benz” glows brilliantly. Meanwhile, the ARTICO Leather upholstery lends an elegant and sophisticated character to the GLC’s interior.

The MBUX consists of a large 12.3-inch display serves as the main interface for the instrument cluster while a touch-operated 10.25-inch media display serves as the main interface to access functions like the radio, phone and navigation, ambient lighting and more.

There are, however, some differences between the different models. The GLC 200, for instance, has a suspension for higher ground clearance with damping controlled individually for each wheel according to driving conditions. Models like the GLC 300 feature an Agility Control suspension that balances comfort with driving stability, offering a smoother and comfortable ride on all road surfaces.

Inside, you will find the SUVs to be powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine (M264) that offers a nine-stage 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission that is standard across the models. The Mercedes-Benz GLC 200 and GLC 300 4MATIC produce output of 145 kW (197 hp) and 320 Nm of torque and 190 kW (258 hp) and 370 Nm of torque, respectively.

According to Mercedes-Benz the GLC 200, GLC 300 4MATIC and GLC 300 Coupé AMG Line is available now and are priced at MYR299,888, MYR350,000 (estimated) and MYR419,888 respectively.
