Tale of Genji Metropolitan Museum of Art
The first major loan exhibition in North America to focus on the artistic tradition inspired by Japan’s celebrated literature classic, The Tale of Genji, will debut in March. The exhibition will cover 11th-century to present-day Japan, and feature more than 120 works. Among them are paintings, calligraphy and even paraphernalia such as lacquer wedding set items and
even a palanquin for a shogun’s bride. Two national treasures will also be exhibited as well as –for the first-time ever, outside Japan – rare works from Ishiyamadera Temple. metmuseum.org
