If you are a fan of the hit British TV drama Downtown Abbey, you might be curious what it would be like to live in such a grand castle while being treated like an aristocrat. Well, wonder no more because the stately 17th-century English abode, Highclere Castle, the location where the show was primarily filmed at, has been listed on the popular Airbnb booking website.
Built-in the 1840s, the Jacobethan style stately home is owned by the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon. It was listed on the site to coincide with the release of the Downton Abbey film and invites two lucky guests to live like royalty for one night in one of the castle’s iconic bedrooms.
According to the listing, the chosen couple would enjoy an evening cocktail in the saloon followed by a traditional dinner with the Earl and Countess. After dinner, guests may enjoy coffee at the library before retiring for the night at a regal bedroom that looks over the 400 hectares of parkland.
Another thing to note if you are keen on this stay is that there is no WiFi or TV available in the room. While that may be slightly inconvenient, one could say it makes the stay all the more authentic. After all, much like the period, Downton Abbey was set in, there were no smartphones or computers in the early 20th century.
But before you book a ticket to the United Kingdom, do note that there are some conditions to this extravagant stay. Only the night of 26 November is open for booking, also selected guests must have a positive review on Airbnb and also need to be a fan of Downton Abbey.
Reservations are set to open on 1 October for the price of £150. But don’t worry if you miss out on the chance to stay overnight at Highclere Castle as it is also opened to the public on select days throughout the year.
