Louis Vuitton has just added a tad of luxury to the world of Formula One with the unveiling of its new Trophy Trunk. Breaking cover at the Formula 1’s 75th anniversary celebrations and season launch at The O2 Arena recently, the winner of the FIA Formula One World Championship will get the coveted prize presented in a bespoke Louis Vuitton Trophy Trunk.
The collaboration is part of the Official Partnership between Formula 1 and Louis Vuitton. But the Maison is evidently going all in with the premiere motorsport racing series. With the next Formula 1 season kicking off on 13 March with the Grand Prix on the 16th in Melbourne, Louis Vuitton will also be making its presence known as the race’s title partner.
At the Formula 1 Louis Vuitton Australian Grand Prix 2025, the luxury brand will be present during key moments, such as the opening ceremony and the podium. And this latest foray into the world of F1 is just part of the Maison’s link to the sport.
Louis Vuitton established an initial link with Formula 1 through a partnership with the Automobile Club de Monaco. That partnership comprised developing and presenting the Trophy Trunk for the Formula 1 Grand Prix de Monaco between 2021-2024.
Today, the Louis Vuitton victory Trophy Trunk stands as the ultimate symbol of triumph across some of the world’s preeminent sports competitions. It is present in competitions such as FIFA World Cup, the Ballon d’Or, the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024, and the America’s Cup.
Ready To Race
The surging global popularity of Formula 1 now sees more people witnessing the sport’s iconic and emotional moments. Louis Vuitton will no doubt be present ensuring that every triumph lives on and perpetuates the tradition that marks new milestones, each time confirming that “Victory travels in Vuitton”.
More than just a tagline, the brand carries that motif into the design of its trophy trunk. Fitting with the tradition of all of the house’s custom pieces, the FIA Formula One World Championship trophy trunk is crafted at the House’s historic atelier in Asnières, in France.
This workshop is where the first automotive trunks were designed under Georges Vuitton, the son of Louis Vuitton, in 1897. Over the following 125 years, Louis Vuitton has remained closely associated with automotive culture.
When George foresaw the growing popularity of cars and travel, he created a durable canvas material called “Vuittonite” to substitute for leather, which ensured the trunks could withstand the elements. This invention would evolve into today’s iconic Louis Vuitton canvas.
With this intent focus, Louis Vuitton perpetuates a tradition dear to the House. It continues to create trunks to transport, protect and showcase the trophies of the world’s most anticipated and highly prized sporting competitions. The Formula One trophy trunk perpetuates this goal in both design and presentation.
The two folding front panels of the trunk are hand painted with a V – both for “Victory” and “Vuitton” – in the emblematic black and white Damier, recalling Formula 1 colours and finish line. The interior is covered by black leather/microfiber to protect the trophy. The exterior is finished with leather trim and the same brass corner protectors, lock and clasps that have been used on Louis Vuitton trunks since the 1860s.
